IM injections weekly?

Hello,
I made the switch from test. patches to injections today at my doctor's office. He previously told me that the injections would be weekly but I got there today and he had changed it to 1 injection every two weeks, with 200 mg per injection. I'm not real familiar with IM injections so I didn't want to argue with him or anthing, but I thought I remembered reading on here that you guys prefer weekly injections. My question is, what is the reason for this? As I understand it the injection is a time-release formula so it doesn't seems like doing it weekly would provide a more steady dose (or would it)? I can try to get him to change it to a weekly injection if there is a significant difference. Any opinions?

Thanks,
Luke

injections have a half life of about 7 days with the DepoTest (cyp), so dosing every week would be better IMO than every 2 weeks. Correct me if I'm wrong guys, but I know that when Saturday rolls around (I take 100mg every Sunday) I start feeling ready for my next shot.

Injections every 2 weeks will put you through more of a roller coaster hormone wise. With you going supraphysical levels of test & high estrogen after the shot, which will dip down to low levels by the end of 2 weeks.

Weekly shots keep your blood levels much more stable & are the prefered and recommended method to use. See hte TRT: Receipe for success by Dr John sticky.

So, just curious, since I'm giving myself the injections anyways, can I just get the prescription he wrote (for 200 mg every 2 weeks) and inject 1/2 as much as indicated, but every week?

Thanks,
Luke

Yes you could do that, althought it would be really beneficial if you could convince your physician to prescribe it as such.

Go to this link and print it out high light the part that says doing shots every 7 to 10 days and give it to your Dr.

What's he giving you? They came up with Sust because they wanted a long term version. I read someplace that with sust you could go almost a month with fairly stable levels.

Thanks, I will print this out and show it to him. My problem is, I use an online pharmacy and it generally takes them about 10 days from when the prescription is recieved for them to get it to me. Right now I have the script for 200 mg and my doctor is out of town, so in order to get him to change the prescription I would probably have to wait AT LEAST a week - and if I do this I won't recieve the injections in time for my next dose. I could do this, but obviously it wouldn't be ideal because I'll be going too long between injections. The script I have is for 1 ml of depo with 200 mg/ml every 2 weeks. I know that if you are doing weekly injections you do 1 ml of depo/week with a concentration of 100 mg/ml...so I guess my question is, is the volume injected important? IE does .5 mL of depo with concentration of 200 mg/ml work the same as 1 mL of depo with concentration of 100 mg/ml? Or is the volume of fluid important for the time-release properties (or something)?

Thanks,
Luke

Luke:

You can do 1/2 mL (cc) of the 200mg stuff to get your 100mg. I did it that way for a long time. The 100mg/mL stuff is a little easier to measure because you'd just use the whole little bottle, but there's no problem with using a half-dose of the 200mg bottle.

Eventually, if you earn your doc's trust, he may just write you a prescription for a 10mL bottle. It makes refills MUCH easier to deal with. The 200mg/mL strength is the only one available in the 10mL bottle though. That would last you 20 weeks. :)

That may have been the theory when they originally made sustanon, but we now know more. Serum testosterone peaks only a 2-3 days after injection of testosterone cypionate or enanthate.

The package insert for testosterone cypionate says to inject every 2-4 weeks and we all know that is wrong. Similar situation with sustanon.

In order to maintain stable blood serum levels with sustanon, the patient must actually inject MORE frequently than cypionate/enanthate. This is mostly because of the short ester testosterone (propionate) found in sustanon.

Wonder why he wrote a prescription for only 1mL/a single dose. I don't even think the generic version of depo-testosterone comes in 1mL vials, but the brand name stuff does, although it is much more rare I am sure. Oh well, you can still inject half of it one week and the other half the next week if you like. Or just go the injection all at once but tell the doctor you felt bad during week #2. Tell him that everyone on HRT support groups on the Internet says that weekly dosing is the way to go. Or maybe not. It is so hard to know with these endos. But if he said weekly once in the past, then maybe he won't mind too much if you press the issue.

interesting
