When should multi-dose vials be discarded?
Medication vials should always be discarded whenever sterility is compromised or questionable.
In addition, the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) General Chapter 797 [http://www.cdc.gov/migration/injectionsafety/providers/references.html#ref16] recommends the following for multi-dose vials of sterile pharmaceuticals:
Thats from the cdc website. so my question: if you brew up a batch of your favorite aas and then inject into presealed sterile vials. do you have any concerns with bacteria entering the hole made in stopper when injecting/venting? you would use some of that batch well after the 28 days the cdc recommends. is the cdc just taking extra precaution and you wouldn't worry about using a pierced vial months or even a year or so later?

- If a multi-dose has been opened or accessed (e.g., needle-punctured) the vial should be dated and discarded within 28 days unless the manufacturer specifies a different (shorter or longer) date for that opened vial.
