swabbing the injection site is basic infection prevention protocol here in the states. If my nurses are doing it before administering a shot in the office you can bet I'm doing it at home.

Your skin is covered in resident flora like staph epidermidis and also transient flora from sweat, clothes, the environment etc. when you inject something with a needle puncturing the surface of the skin can push that bacteria deeper into the tissue. Why the absolute F would someone be dumb enough not to wipe their spot they stab themselves beforehand?
