hey, been reading on meso for years but just recently made an account. 41m 6'1 210lb, really getting back into it/serious about 14 months ago after i spent a few years on prednisone for some medical reasons and that stuff made me blow up to 340lb (i've always been around ~200 my entire life), i went from working out 3-4 times a week to 2 days, then 1, then none and it was depressing. got sick of all that bs and ended up dropping all that weight after getting off prednisone and doing full carnivore for about 12mo and i was back to my normal weight range. that diet served its purpose and i felt amazing while on it but didn't feel like its probably a great idea to stay on it for life and while its great for low/mid level sustained energy and mental clarity its shit for when you need to go all out and have any kind of explosive workout without feeling dead inside so im now back to eating clean/balanced meals.

i had my doubts for a while there but im back to feeling healthy for over a year now and staying consistent in the gym at least 4 days a week. started reta a few months ago to help lean up along with some various peps and just recently started (8 weeks ago) my first cycle since before my health issues , got bloods done a few days ago and waiting on results.

anyway, glad to be back in it and glad to be here.

Welcome and congratulations on getting back to your healthy baseline after that fucking prednisone poison. I know it's necessary at times and can be literally life saving but my god for long term it's awful.

And you're right about carnivore / keto - serves a purpose no doubt, but if you're looking to build lean mass, getting back into the carbs is the best way to go about it - and you're in Luck since reta really likes to be fed lots of carbs.

thanks.
reta really likes to be fed lots of carbs.
yeah i noticed that, i still have remnants of the carnivore mindset where whenever i think if carbs i automatically go for protein instead. i really miss how i felt on that diet, since adding carbs back in i feel dumber and less sharp if that makes sense.

thanks.

Yes it is an inconvenient truth - fasting / keto / carnivore (ketosis) really is best for mental clarity and sharpness (at least for most of us). I will say that I am able to handle a very large amount of carbs while on Reta (and on Tirz prior to that), more than I ever thought I could. I've experimented with lowering the protein to get more carbs and keep cals constant and even then I don't get food comas even eating 400 grams of cooked rice with a banana / dates.
