Is fast metabolism a real thing

I know this could be a stupid question but could be interesting
I never been overweight (without considering when i was like 8 lol) they always told me i had a really fast metabolism i dont think its even a real thing but during covid i ate like shit (and i was 13 lol) and didnt gained too much weight and i wasnt really active because of restrictions
I have seen studies that say that calories expenditure can vary 400 kcal max beetween 2 similar people (muscle mass and height) that i think its basically nothing
I wait comments on it
Its not that i need it because im basically already the weight i want to be, but pure curiosity

Yes.

Optimize your thyroid function with T4, and you'll notice a significant increase in metabolism, clear in levels of energy, body temperature, and weight loss within a few weeks.

I'm not suggesting you start slamming T4, but once you've experienced the change that can induce, it's clear the difference in thyroid function between individuals alone explains fast vs slow metabolizers.

Thanks! Its only about the thyroid? Yes i forgot to say i always feel hot
But how many kcal a slow vs fast mwtabolizer burn more?

Typically if someone feels hot most of the time, that's indicative of higher metabolism, always cold the opposite,

Metabolism isn't only based on thyroid function, but it's responsible for the majority of it.

I haven't seen any studies that measure resting calorie burn difference, but after increasing free t4 in the lower 20% of the normal range to 80%, I dropped 5 lbs in two weeks with no change in diet and exersize. I also had to turn down the thermostat and increase hydration.

I have an idea its probably stupid but idk there are athletes like me that have heat problems if its caused by high thyroid hormones it could be possible to do a replacement therapy of t3/t4 and near the event stop it
Its just an idea and its probably dumb lol

Thyroid function bounces back to whatever its previous levels were quickly once meds are stopped, even after years. But there are risks in going above physiological levels, so it's best to stay within the normal range.

First thing wound be to get TSH and Free T4 blood test. They're cheap,

Thyroid hormones are banned in sports, and take a while to clear out of your system, fyi.

What are some T3/T4 levels you think are acceptable?

There's a difference between what's "ideal" for feeling good and athletic performance, and what's best for longevity.

These ranges are the former. For longevity you need to look up the range for your age, and stay between the 20th and 80th percentile for that group.

If you're asking about dose of T4, the usual starting dose is 1.6mcg/kg, but I would start at 50mcg if you're already within the range below and just trying to increase it.

After a month test again, and if still below the max, and aren't feeling excessively hot or anxious, increase the dose to 75mcg and test again in 4 weeks,

None of this applies if you have cardiovascular problems, in which case I wouldn't mess with it at all.

T4 converts to T3, so I wouldn't consider T3 unless free T4 rises but T3 doesn't move.

And for gods sake, don't use UGL for T4. Pharma only. 120x50mcg tabs from Merck or Abbot Labs is only $4 from India. If you're in the EU and can't get Indian just use one of the EU pharma suppliers here on Meso,

Could the thyroid but a lot of the time it has to do with N.E.A.T

non exercise activity thermogenesis

This is the amount you fidget and move around without thinking about it. This could very from one person to another. A LOT.

Like me. I eat and don't want to move. Im great at sitting around all day doing nothing. Some ppl eat and without thinking start moving. They tap their foot all days and just keep moving. This has a lot to do with what ppl call " fast metabolism "

Damn it burns so many calories? Btw its a interesting thing im going to look at other skinny people like me tap theire foots etc
I cant really say something about me because rn i burn easy 5500 kcal daily and some days even more (calculated by bike power meter that is pretty precise way to know how many calories you burned while training but i mean its not the main purpose lol)

There is a range that most people metabolism functions in. When food is eaten, digested and absorbed. It seems there are only 3 real things that can happen for the most part. The food is used for work, heat or stored as fat. If a person requires more calories to do the same amount of work as another person it would seem they have a less efficient metabolism. Same as if they need more calories to make heat. For people that eat a larger amount of calories then most without getting fat i tend to think their body is just not really digesting the food efficiently. I know for my self when i was force feeding my self with the most amount of calories i ever ate. Growth slowed down way down. And once calories were lowered i started gaining agon. which lead me to believe i was just not really digesting all i ate. Just because something is eaten don't mean it is digested and absorbed.

Damn i didn thought about that, its pretty interesting

Yes the difference can be as extreme in study as much as 1500 cals a day. That's the extreme but think of it more as 200 to 500 cals a day difference for ppl with high NEAT.

1500 seem a bit too much only by that but if u add that to the delta beetween a fast and slow metabolism is like 900 kcalories more,i mean, its not an huge amount but not even small

Not that it's wrong, but an emphasis on "typically" needs to be well understood. Someone is going to read this and skip over that and just makes the assumption.

Body composition and blood flow also play a huge role in being hot/cold.
