[I consult with men all across the globe for ASIH, including its minimization and prevention after stopping AAS. It is nice to see ASIH in the foreign literature.]

L’uso non-terapeutico (abuso, doping) di steroidi androgeni anabolizzanti (SAA) rappresenta una delle principali cause di danno iatrogeno a carico dell’asse ipotalamo-ipofisi-testicoli. Nei maschi, a rischio attuale o pregresso di abuso, gli SAA vanno sempre sospettati come possibili fattori eziologici nella genesi di ipogonadismo ipogonadotropo, infertilità, disturbi della sessualità e deficit erettile. Senza collaborazione del paziente, la diagnosi di abuso con SAA può essere anche impossibile.

[The non-therapeutic use (abuse, doping) of anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) is a leading cause of iatrogenic damage to the load of the hypothalamic-pituitary-testes. In males, at risk current or past abuse, the AAS should always be suspected as a possible etiologic factors in the genesis of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, infertility, sexual problems and erectile dysfunction. Without cooperation of the patient, the diagnosis of abuse with AAS can also be impossible.]

Is he suggesting those who use AAS need to tell the truth when discussing medical issues with their physicians?

Indeed they do, and it's a shame how often a contrary opinion is posted on PED forums.

The reasons I've heard for LYING
include:
1) health insurance limiting coverage
2) Johnny law
3) increased life insurance premiums
4) physician bias
5) and more recently "community alert" systems

While there is a certain degree of physician bias with respect to recreational drug use in general, the majority is result of docs concern for patients ABUSING DRUGS rather than using drugs in a more responsible and /or controlled manner.

To that end while I agree many physicians need an attitude change the same can be said for their patients!
