Have you ever injured your knees and what are the tricks to rehabbing them? Just 2 days ago I had the misfortune to slip and fall off my porch due to a slick of ice and rolled my right knee as I fell rather awkwardly. Right now swollen as anything and rather hard to walk even though I can put weight on it, so nothing appears to be torn.

Been taking 800mg ibuprofen 2x a day for the pain and icing it. Can I ever use heat at some point?

How long does it take to rehab and what good exercises can I do as part of rehab?

No heat at all right now. Wait til swelling goes down before starting rehab stuff. Try to keep as much passive ROM now tho. I mean if swelling isn't from impact... Some tissue has been damaged...

Sorry to hear

Better to go slow and take it easy. I've injured my knees to the point where you are at now. Sometimes takes a few weeks and I'm jumping around I've also spent months out with a more severe injury. They all feel the same at first. Like hot dog said ice the shit out of it and reevalute once the swelling goes down. You can see a pt and they will wiggle that shit around and tell you if you tore something.

Stationary bike, leg extensions and quad, hammies, calf stretching (slow and easy). Hot baths with Epsom salts. Ice 20 minutes.

Doc appointment? Not a cool thing having a swelling :( Hopefully you recover fast, I am currently having a knee problem from jumping down a few stairs... but mine has no swelling at all... I think a professional is best option you have

The swelling has gone down some today and was able to walk with the help of an Ace bandage for support. So that is a good sign.

@heady muscle I plan to get onto the exercise bike this weekend if all goes well, and will take a hot soak in the tub tonight. The ibuprofen has helped me tremendously too.

I hope to be back to squats and deads by summer :)

Your avatars are similar, I also mix you up often... anyway on topic ibuprofen really helps a lot, I restrain from using pain meds but everytime I go full retard no warm up and fuck my elbow up it always comes to rescue lol :)

Edit: Oops I actually use naproxene, but I believe they are related

If I were you I would use the old stand by and proven RICE principals being rest, ice, compression and elevation along with just walking and moving it some here and there as an active recovery type deal and just give it some time, though your best bet is always to seek out a doctors advice, on the account of better safe than sorry.

I 2 just injured my knee put me out of the gym and work for 2 weeks I just iced it elevated it and saw the doctor, took an xray but no bone Injury. Just a little tender on the inside of my right knee. Gonna hit the gym after work tonight gotta start of nice and slow again!

that's good to hear. Slow and easy.
Yep, I took a walk today so far so good as I wore a copper knee brace that I bought. Only bad thing was the very strong wind!

Sure sucks getting injured and the weather being nice o_O

You got lucky son...my old knees took a beating over the years and what happened to me was just merely another bump in a rather rocky road that's called my life

It's still pretty chilly here. My first Saturday off in a while and I've sleep on and off, went to the grocery store, go gas, back for a nap. lol. Won't even make it to the gym today. A real Saturday.

Do you think the copper bracelet is helping?

Yes so far so good using the copper knee brace. I picked that up in Walgreens so thought I give that brace a whirl.
