leg training

Ok bros here's where im lost, Ive been one those guys who never workout legs. I now see that that was a bad, bad, bad idea, im 212lbs with 22in legs and a even worst 16in calves. My upper body is pretty cool, meaning I dont seem to have any lagging body parts. My question it this, how do I increase my leg size enough to catch up with my upper body? If I workout my legs just as hard as every thing else will the catch up in time? or must I do more reps/sets to make up for the difference? What im really worried about is when I go back on my diet,legs/calves will be that much smaller? Any info will help TY - Mm-

You might wanna do only maintenance work for your upper body until your legs catch up.Im sure Gavin, freddy or Hogg could give you a good workout to accomplish this.Nothing looks worse than a good upper body on chicken legs.

yo money', i agree with desi about doing upper body maintainance workwhile you bomb the legs otherwise they'll never catch up with your upper body. 22" at 212lbs is pretty pathetic. the 16" are not as bad, so you're lucky in that respect.

imho, you may want to consider increasing the frequency with which you train legs, for example. try doing hst for legs, at 3x/week on mon, wed, fri. then, on tues and thursday you can do the upper body on a maintainance level.

hit the legs hard with squats all 3x/week. i guarantee you will put on some size with this method as it's worked nicely for me and many others. also do something for the hams like alternate leg curls with stiff deads for them each workout. and dont forget to bang the shit out of your calves too. by specializing you will be able to foucs all you physical and mental energies on the probelm, namely your legs, and get it sorted out in the quickest time possible.

I say just start blasting the legs 2-3x wk. If you never work them they'll respond pretty quick. I wouldn't sacrafice my upper body in the mean time as the rate of growth maybe slowing down anyway. Your legs will catch up soon enough. The leg programs the others were talking about will do the trick................11

Thanks guys and 11 I workout my legs just not as hard, not any where near as hard, once a week at the most. And I igree with remeber what Arnold said about lagging body parts in "Pumping Iron"

Mooneyman,

Get on the 8 week squat program and run it with the 5x5. Don't just do maintenance for upper body - what the hell is maintainence anyway? Squat 3 times per week - only on Wednesday do front squats rather than back squats. Then on Monday and Friday do back squats.

If you need some help email me and I'll train you for awhile for free.

Matt
