hey guys, i just started the 5x5 monday, and i am supposed to do squats again today per the schedule. But, i am still pretty sore and i have always read not to lift sore. Should i worry about it? Or should i just wait until friday to squat again. I am eating a ton and sleeping as much as possible being in the military. Just wondering what you guys think. Thanks a bunch

Go ahead and lift anyway -- your body will adapt to the greater workload and after a week or two you won't really get sore anymore, but the poundages will keep going up. Depending on your training history, these increases can go on for a while before you stall out. I'm on my 4th cycle of the 5x5 followed by 3x3 (per the sticky) and the only time I get sore now is when I go from the 3x3 back to the 5x5. The only thing that sucks about this workout is that, unless you like to wear those baggy ghetto-ass jeans, you won't be able to find ones that fit anymore. They are either too tight in the ass and groin regions that they rack you all the time or they are so loose in the waist that they fall off your ass.

yep - with the 5x5 it is important that you get your work in. You can lower the weight if you have to, but make sure you get in all 25 reps.

The middle workout is somewhat of a recovery session anyway. And as for working a muscle when it's sore, the "working" is relative. Light work is GREAT for sore muscles as it really helps the blood flush out the toxins, keeps the nerves trained, and doesn't cause any more damage to the muscle. You'll get used to it, as stated above.

Also, the comment about the pants is too true. I wear my pants about 3" too big in the waist, and often still sport the highwaters when I stand up.
