So here is my rant...
I was at the gym warmed for deadlifts mutiple times.....then i packed on 10 plates,i usaully get a few reps with and put my liftin straps on, tightened the straps got a good grip and pulled the weight off the squat rack ( i go to a balley's so they don't have a deadlift mat, so i have to use the squat rack). Well I backed several feet and began my first rep all of a sudden i hear my straps starting to break..i thought i could make it back to the rack and put the weight back on and spare my self the embarassement of dropping the weight with a huge boom....well i ALMOST made it there and my strap totally ripped sending 500lbs down on my ankle which bent at a nice 90 degree ankle. I got up helped take the weight off the bar with my partner as he shook his head is disbelief of what just happened. Gimped out of the gym and went home and started icing. Went to the docs the next day got x-rays, nothing broken luckliy...just a severe sprain, now i sit here sitting pissed off with a ankle swollen like a baseball and bruised...wanting to know

Where could i purchase high quality lifting straps that won't break??
this would be key

thanks bros....

ouch

Damn bro that could have been a lot worse for you, someone was watching over you. That had to freak the shit out of your partner too.

anyone know where to get good liftin straps from??

Go to dynamic-eleiko.com or elitefts.com. If you cant find good straps there, you wont find them anywhere.

after breaking 3 sets of straps already i've gotten into the habit of inspecting my equipment before i use it. longest i've had any normal straps last, with constant use, was a little over a year.

Took the words right out of my mouth, Freddy.....except for the nagging cough! In the past, I used lifting straps frequently until my training partner (who's a national-level bodybuilder) said, "you ever see a guy w/big forearms using straps?!" That's all I needed to hear.

are you alternating your grip? By that, I mean one overhand one underhand? That should take away the need for straps.

i will try chalk and hopefully keep increasing my grip strength up to 500 lbs+

but in the meantime for those heavy dead lifts (at least heavy to me) i will pick up a pair of those heavy duty straps

thanks bros for the input

www.ironmind.com have super duty straps used by many pro strongmen (and me sometimes...lol) which are made out of a synthetic material and can hold well over 1000 lbs with no problems.

Cheers,

G.

I'll second that. Leather straps work well also, as long as your not doing cleans or snatches.

seriously, it's really all about just never using straps. If you never start using them, you'll never need to.
