Low E2 and erectile dysfunction?

Can low E2 levels cause erectile dysfunction? I know low E2 can cause loss of libido and sensation, but will it affect your ability to get an erection?

Thx

Yes. Low E2 levels can cause erectile dysfunction.

See DavidZ's notes on this board for his experience in managing estrogen levels.

I already knew that low E2 can cause erectile dysfunction. I was asking if E2 had a role in genital sensation.

Absitively and posolutely. :)

Isn't that the same thing as ED?

Based on my (subjective) experience, I would say yes.

My question is, what exactly is its role, If E2 is too high does it affect sensation, or if E2 is too low, or both?

For me it was both and a lot of men I have talked to has the same problems.
When I was to high I lost my sex life I could not get it up or reach an orgasm.
I had a low pain in my prostate with slow voiding this gave me 4 to 5 bladder infections a yr. I feel I was high for about 10 yrs. I went on TRT 21 yrs ago and as I got older on it and not feeling 100% my E2 went up and we did not know anything about it. Getting my E2 down gave me back my sex life and a lot of health problems went away. My prostate went down I void dam good now and no more infections. Yet in bring down my E2 I went to low many times and for me it is just as bad as to high. And if your down to low for to long it is worse.

If I were to only look at my sense of "sensation" (or even erectile response alone), I don't think I could distinguish whether my E2 was too high or too low. They seem the same, if not, very similar. When E2 (and T) is in the right range, the whole mechanism clicks in, both sensation and response.

There are various reason which lead to erectile dysfunction like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, fatigue, stress, physical injuries, smoking and alcohol consumption. Most men suffer with this disorder at some stage of there life for one reason or the other. The best way to get over Sexual Dysfunction is to increase awareness among youth as how this disorder is being caused and how it can be cured. Along side parents should be encouraged to talk about this with there kids, so that the embarrassment which people feel about talking about such issues can come to an end. Levitra is a FDA approved drug and helps in treating impotency and ED disorders in men.

Mine E2 runs low (was 12 on my last labs) and I believe this has caused libido and ED issues.

Is there a way to calculate optimal E2 range? Based on SHBG?

If the damm tests at Quest Diagnostics worked as they are supposed, then the answer is affirmative.
Unfortunately Quest made empty promises.

Ok.
(Forget about BAT for a while).

Ideally we should not worry about E2 levels because similarly as with TotalTestosterone, what we are really after is the free fraction not the total amount..
FreeT in case of testosterone
FreeE2 in case of estrodial

This test should do what you want:
• Estradiol, Free, LC/MS/MS (36169X) - (41772N)

http://cas2.questdiagnostics.com/scripts/webdos.wls?MGWLPN=QDCIAP20&wlapp=DOS&OrderCode=41772N&SITE=4&SearchString=ESTR&tmradio=title

Estradiol, Free pg/mL
Males (Adult): < or = 0.45 pg/mL
Males (Adult): 1.25-1.85 %

Estradiol pg/mL
Males (Adult): < or = 29 pg/mL
====================================================================

Ideally this test should do what dr John want from the test that he recomends,
pluss the FreeE2 part.
-----------------------------------------------------

I tried and it did not worked.
I tried both tests, side by side, same blood draw.
The E2 part varied widely in both tests, but they should have been identical.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The optimal E2 is somewhere E2(25-29) or even (20-30)
But that is general number. Going real low with E2 is dangerous, bone loss.

Do not use, eat anything that lowers E2, that probably includes brocoli to some extend.

One day Quest will make correction without telling anybody.

It would be a good idea to keep eye on this test.
Possibly someone have a contact with Quests research or management.

I've battled low e2 for over a year now. My last Labcorp test in Feb showed my e2 at 4 and previous to that back in Jan it was 8. The range it says is between 3 - 70. However, I've heard people say that low e2 can couse ED which I have.

I can watch porn and get horny and can get it up but cant maintain an erection because I feel like there is less sensitivity or feeling in my penis. Is that what you guys mean by "sensitivity"? Also, where should my e2 level fall?

Thoughts?

Can anyone comment on this? I desperately want to raise my e2 and find out if that is what's been causing my issues. The highest I've been able to get it was e2=14. Even then as is today, I'm able to get it up but can't maintain it.

What is your level of Testosterone, Free T, SHBG, Prolactin?

Here are my labs from 3/14

I was taking:
Testim 1% ED
HCG 250iu ETD
DHEA - 25mg ED

Labcorp Bloodwork 3/14

Testosterone, Serum = 766 (249 - 836)
Testosterone, F+W = 196 (40 - 250)
Testosterone, Free, Direct = 24 (8.7 - 25.1)
SHBG = 29 (14.5 - 48.4)
Estradiol = 14 (3-70) This is the highest it's been in 9 months. I'm usually in the single digits.
DHT =126 (30 - 85)
DHEA = 356 (88 - 427)
Vitamin D = 63 (32 - 100)
Progesterone = 0.8 (0.2 - 1.4)
Cortisol-AM = 19 (6.2 - 19.4)
PSA = 2.5 (0 - 4)
Prolactin = Did not test for this.

Remember - I cant take DHEA anymore to raise estradiol because it made my PSA jump from 1.0 to 2,5. I'm hoping it will go back down now that I stopped DHEA but it's likely going to bring my estradiol down as well. I need to find out what causing the low estradiol or how to raise it artificially. The only other possible explanation is I took saw palmetto last year for a few months. Could that have done something?

This is still such an inexact science it seems. My last test showed my E2 plummeted from 50's to 3 in a month or two. Thats LOW but I have night wood (anticipation of getting some i guess)and morning wood daily now. I do .5 of test 2x per week and just added HCG.
Do others do well with low E2?

Testosterone converts into DHT and E2. Saw palmetto partially limits (blocks) conversion into DHT - this can induce future problems... maybe increased DHT conversion after stopping palmetto.

Testosterone gels usually converts more into DHT than E2. Testosterone injections converts more into E2.
Maybe you should switch to injections?
Or maybe lower Testim dose and increase HCG (converts more into E2)
