The Maddog push/pull was a really fun day. As always, Susan puts n the smoothest run meets I've ever been a part of. She catered to the lifters' every need and the meet still only ran 2.5 hours from start to finish.
Opened at 700, which was probably a little high, but all I cared about was hitting that 700 pull. Warm-ups didn't feel very good - felt like I was in front of the bar too much. Anyway, hit my last warmup at 625, and then went on to my first attempt. I got ready to pull the bar, set my grip and started to pull, when all of the sudden, the weight came falling out of my left hand. This has never happened before. I quickly looked at my left hand and saw that I had torn a huge callus off and was bleeding badly (see video).
I was a little worried that I had torn it so bad on my first attempt. I tried to stop the bleeding, but it wouldn't, so when it was my turn to pull again, I just rubbed a ton of chalk in it and tried to forget about it. The second attempt went well - nice a smooth, but a little slow at the top. 3 whites! - got my first official 700 pull.
700 deadlift with callus tear
Third attempt was 725 and under the circumstances was just a bit much for the day. I felt like I only got it to my upper shin, but after watching the video, I got it about an inch or two above my knees before it stopped moving.
All in all, happy that I made the 700 official.
