Make you own patch?

Has anyone tried making their own test. patch? I know Dr.'s prescribe them but didn't know if it was possible to make your own.
I have a friend in his early 50's that has been injecting for years and is looking for an alternative.

be easier to just find a transdermal carrier such as DMSO or plogel.
