marriage is outdated

i sometimes tend to think that marriage is more abused then out dated, ya know? ... just my .02

If the gov't implemented it, you know there'd be a 500 dollar fee for all that shit. Fuck that! I'm busy enough as it is. I'm sure as fuck not about to piss away another 30hrs that could be better spent doing something productive like lifting, eating, punching people in the face or watchin Law&Order. ;) LOL[/QUOTE]

LOL- BTW $500 buys about 3 sessions. A decent child custody psych test battery is about $500 an hour and plan on about 12 hours per parent.

I was reading something the other day that basically said the "50% of marriages end in divorce" mantra that we all spout is so far from accurate that its diplorable. The actual number was closer to about 20%.

How manymarriages are happy? Some, but certainly not all. I am continually encouraged when I see Jewel's parents, my ex's parents and my pastor and his wife. They are all right around 28-32 years, very happily married, are considerate of the other person. Its awesome to see these couples.

IMO, marriage is FAR from outdated. We need more committed marriages and less cohabitation, less single-parent homes, less out of wedlock kids. We need laws that make it much more difficult to get married instead of the very weak ones we have now. Divorces are so easy to get. Why try to solve problems when you can just divorce the person and start the same garbage over again with a new one? Its total crap.

Not to start an arguement but the actual number is no where near 20% and is much closer to 50% (54% is somewhat over stated b/c it takes people into account who have been divorced several times). In my opion the 5 year plan works best for everyone. The highest peak for divorce is in the 5th year.
Common language reflects culture. The statement where is your better half is a perfect indicator of this. As if you are not complete if you don't have a better half. We look for others to complete us. It never works but there is a social pressure to find the rest of you. Watch what happens- due to moral decline people don't have the family structure they once did. They miss many important socio-developemental aspects. They may get half of what they need. 2 people with half of what they need don't equal a whole but instead multiply and give birth to - 1/2x1/2= 1/4 . That 1/4 grows up and continues the cycle.
I don't want this to be mistaken for a guy who can't find someone- I live with my girl and am very happy with her. This is a reflection of what I see.
To tackle the next issue raised- yes it is far to easy to have kids. I once heard a hairdresser needs a license to cut hair but any ass can have kids. I don't have a solution- maybe someone does.
And on top of the 5 year marriage contract I also think people should have to live by themselves for 5 years before getting married. Maybe this will take fear out of being alone.

Go ahead let the government have even more control of our lives. You think people should have to live alone for 5 years before getting married. No offense bro, but that is real ignorant statement.

No offense taken- Ignorance is a lack of knowledge and I was not the one who has shown that here. I am not saying the government should dictate anything. In fact what I am saying (if you took the time to read) is that the legal aspects of marriage are one of the main aspects that make it so potientially damaging.

Are you asserting that people who live together before marriage have higher success rates (lower divorces and more happiness)?
