I told you it was going to. More often than not they ruin. All of the LOTR and Hobbit movies are probably the best movie adaptations. Haven’t read much either but I think I’m going to start up again this winter. Worst part about not reading for a while is not knowing where to start. There is so much to read and reread.

I need to catch up on The Dresden Files at some point. It's hard to start up and then once you do it's hard to stop.

Yeah Dark Tower is awesome! I didn't even hate the ending that much. Really I thought the last book really ended strong compared to book 6.

Yeah it's funny about WoT in county, you can never read it in order. I just read book 1 and 2 of The Stormlight Archive, I figure that's gonna be the next Wheel of Time.

The Name Of The Wind was another modern one I really liked, kinda had a young-adult vibe to it but still good.

I hated it the first time I read it, but the second time I was able to appreciate it more. There's really no other way it could have ended.

Looked up that last one. Might pick that one up at some point, I need a good series.

There is a whole shit load of new King books. I think I might start there but at the same time I also want to read about a dozen other ones. I think that’s why I fell off. I finished up some memoir books on the Afghan and Iraq wars and then took a break. After that I just stopped. Funny thing is you just have to remove the thing that took readings spot but for some reason it’s easier to keep on doing the same old thing. Like not going to the gym. Longer you go without going the harder it is to go back.

I've read The Dark Tower series three times now and lately I've been feeling like making my fourth journey to the tower.
I remember the waste lands ended when I was in high school... he didn't write the next one for like 10 fucking years. When he got hit by a truck he said he got dickloads of fan mail he thought was well wishers... turned out to be people asking for the ending before they died of cancer and shit. I held the last book for over a year because I didn't want it to be over. I read the gunslinger 26 years ago. Excellent series and I believe I read it 3 times as well.

Taking a guess but going by your profile name we are the same age and that was exactly what happened to me. I remember finishing it and being so pissed that there wasn’t more. Fell off reading for a long time. A book here or there then one day after my kids were born and I started taking them to the library I checked out the King section and all the rest had been written. I’ll never forget that moment. It was like disbelief and excitement. I started getting all giddy and my kids thought I was nuts. Sounds silly but it’s true.

Currently (re)reading Neal Stephenson's Mongoliad series. Essentially Templar knights vs. the Mongol empire from both/many perspectives. It's fictional history, and he does color outside the lines to keep the story interesting. There are maybe a dozen related side books, not all by Stephenson, and some are better than others.

My first Stephen King book was Nightmares and Dreamscapes. I think I was like 9-10. Read The Stand next. Never got to The Dark Tower till 2006 when I was dating this chick that had been reading the series all her life. She was holding off on the last book just like you were and I ended up finishing it before her. I just had to know what happened and I was pissed about the ending the first time. About two years later I read through it again and I actually appreciated the ending that time.

Yeah he said he got requests from people on death row, old people, people that were terminally ill, etc all wanting to know how it ended. I thought book 6 (and every time they went to NYC after Waste Lands) was boring as hell, so for 7 to take the setting back to mid world was cool.

2 will always be my favorite.

Skeleton crew was the first stephen king I read... I was maybe 7 years old and i am still haunted by those stories.

My favorite short story was the long walk... the talisman was a good one. My least favorite was it... started it half a dozen times and couldn't stand it and I read most of his stuff multiple times when I was a kid. It sucked.

Anyone ever read The Witcher series? Been thinking of picking them up around Christmas time when work hopefully slows up.

I don’t think I can pick a favorite but I’m definitely more fond of either 4 or 5. Only because of the detailed back story of Roland. He’s one of my favorite characters of all time so that was cool to read about him as a younger man.

The new It movie is pretty good. As an adult I don’t think a movie can scare me but I definitely appreciated the effort into this one. I was almost tempted to watch it with my daughter because I thought it would be ok. So glad I didn’t. Lol. When I was younger I started and stopped the talisman 2-3 times because I couldn’t fully get into it. then one day I just said fuck it I’m going to read it all the way through and it’s become one of my favorites.

Currently reading The greatest generation by Brokaw.
It's a book you can read a little at a time, each chapter is a different story. Brokaw fan or not it's a good book so far.

I think I've read all the short story collections. Talisman was good. I actually read Black House first for some reason, probably got it at a used book sale or something, can't remember. I really enjoyed The Dead Zone. Never really hear it mentioned much. Almost all of his old stuff from that time period was good.

Agreed, book 4 was awesome in the way it was pure backstory. 5 was really almost the same kind of deal (Group of heroes rides into town and fights evil). 5 just had such ridiculous parts, mechanical werewolves etc
