Mid life crisis

At 52 I finally got a dream job
Very happy about it but I did have to give up a few things that were really important to me: volunteering as a firefighter, a short commute (2hr now vs 10 minutes [emoji15]) but most of all... working out.

The hardest part is having to accept the fact that by giving up working out - I essentially forced the start of my physical decline.

I basically reached my peak and it will never be better than what is was last year... I’m on full mid-life crisis now... [emoji24][emoji24]

Now I’m becoming aware of the inevitable aging and my own mortality...

Yeah... I’m in one of those moods [emoji855]

That's not so bad... A guy in my office is having an affair.

2hr commute? This must really be a dream job.

Anyways, if you don't like things then you have to figure out a way to adjust. If these things are bothering you this much now, you're really going to be in a mood thinking about these things in 5-10 years... During your 2hr commute.

If I landed a dream job I'd want to have a reasonable commute as 2hrs each way sounds insane. Taking a train or even a bus would not be bad if that were possible.

Congrats on the dream job! 2 hrs is one hella commute. Not sure what the dream job consist of, but for that type of commute did they atleast offer a relocation package?

If you haven’t considered relocating, it may not be a bad idea. That much travel time gets old real quick. Besides, if you relocate you can gain back atleast 2-3 of those 4 hrs and add back in gym time and maybe some volunteer work?

It happens and you can get past it. I can't stand the older men at my gym, partly because they're always in the way, but mostly because I see my future when I see them.

But until that is me, I'll push and keep going.

This would be when I'd consider TRT. Diet well, and do body weight exercise at home if you have to. You're in a position to blast and cruise... totally would lol

Congrats on the job man. Hey age ain’t nothing but a number! I’m 45 goong on 30!
If your balling a little harder now maybe invest in a home gym, and lots of primo and hgh! o_O
That sounds like a great option as well as with a home gym you don't have to worry about crowds and snotty people hogging equipment. And you can blast your music as loud as you want!

Just because the OP got a dream job does not mean he has to give up his own dreams.

Telecommute is a dream, two hour commute a nightmare. I hope it's not in traffic. I get that here a couple days a week in the summer. If I had to do it any more often than that, I would retire.

As I work in the IT field I work from home 1 day a week and I love it, and wished I could work more even though my office is just a 20 min ride away.

I could telecommute nearly every day, and my employer would be OK with it. Unfortunately, I lack the discipline to handle it more than one or two days a week.

Yes that is all too common and I know of a few colleagues who are like that and that frustrates me bigtime when I needed their help on a technical issue.

20 minute drive to parking 10 minutes walk to train 1 hour 10 minutes train ride 15 minute walk to office... unfortunately moving is not an option, not to NY city and it’s costs ...
A train ride is not bad at all, and I myself used to work in NYC so the commute by train to Wall Street was worth it for me as I didn't also mind the walk from the train station to the building I worked in.
