had a motorcycle since i turned 18

helmet laws are bullshit. Preventing a wreck is the key and you can prevent them much better w/o a helmet robbing you of your sight and hearing.
obviously you stand a better chance of living if you get into an accident with a helmet on. To prevent an accident it is not even close on what is better. I hate helmets

Nice bike, have you topped it out?

the new cbr 600rr is a nice bike...but it's still a 600.if tis your first bike i wouldnt buy a new one though.my first two 600's wasnt that bad,but now i just weight too much for them.and what ever you do dont get a duck those things are money pitts and theyre slow as hell.my best friend had a 748 and i got on it and it wouldnt go over 130mph (even though i did weigh 255 at the time)thats just uncalled for.

find you a used 600 or better yet a 929 or 954.oh yea the rc51 (thats my favorite bike to date)twin power :D

Two of these where I live, I've been told that there is only five in the world, but this was years ago, I know Jay Leno has one. First time I heard these things I thought a jet was taxing down the road.

hit 165-167 last summer. I think the speedometer is off though so i would say i was closer to 155-160. It was smooth but i ran out of hwy so I couldnt keep going. I believe the top end is supposed to be 169. dont remember for sure. I was going with the wind and it was steadily climbing still.

rootz, at your size a 600 will be perfect. Look in the classifieds. You should be able to find a nice katana 600 for 2-3k. last you a couple of years and than go from there. The 600 katana is comfortable, plenty fast(will go 140+), and is easy to ride. The cbr 600 is more expensive and faster, but for your first bike there is no need for it.

THICK!...i cant believe that you just told a person to get a canatuna  you dont want people to laugh at him do ya?plus those things wont handle for shit.he would be better off with a 6r,cbr6 or srad 6.the f4 would be the best bike...for reasons of resale, comfort, and speed and handling.anyone who owns a yamaha dont get mad because i didnt mention r-6...and katana owners...i'm just picking ;)

lol, well i personally really liked my katana's. they were more comfortable than the gsxr's in my opinion and were very reliable. I will say that my zx6 has a lot more to offer. It is faster than my 750 katana, very comfortable, and it handles much better so i will give u the handling part. I just doubt this guy will be doing corners at 120 and katanas can be found dirt cheap. what more can you ask for a beginning bike. he can hit the front brakes on some sand. scratch it up and not even care b/c he is learning on the thing ;) thats if he is in the midwest or north where sand is piled up by the stop signs

i just hate those skinny ass tires and the clit tail light.i will give you comfort...they are cushy.but he will get more aggresive in no time and want a better bike.you know how that goes."im not going to act crazy on this"weve all said it and lied like hell to ourselves. :D

My first was a Katana 600 and I sold that bitch about 2 months later because it got boring fast. Traded it in for an F4 and loved it. Fell in love with Hodas immediately. The next summer I traded it in for my 01 CBR929RR and I have no complaints about that bike. I have had it up to 168 althought speedos are terribly inaccurate after 80mph. Have to clutch a little in 3rd around 60mph to lift the front. Really stable in the turns and on one wheel. Had to move the pegs up a bit to keep from draggin them in the turns but overall solid bike.
Thinking about trading it in for the RC51 though. Never owned a twin and after riding my buddy's TL, I might have to get one.

Helmets are a must when I am dicking around. If I am just riding I dont worry about it, but I do take it. I rolled a stoppie last summer and was happy I had my helmet and leather on. Fucking embarrassing though!

r00tz,
Definately get a 600 or 750. Definately get used. Don't get a Katana unless you are very timid and dont plan on riding aggresively. They just lose their enjoyment fast. Especially if you ride alot. A late 90s F4 or GSXR would be a great choice. You can find great deals on them.

LOL. you wont find any automatic sport bikes. Honda used to make a 350 auto. It was nicknamed the Hondamatic. Piece of shit but a fun collectors item if you find one.

Its easier than you think, I was racing on back roads with friends three months after I learned how to ride.

My friend started out on a 2001 R1 as his first bike and he is doing fine. I think it all has to do with mentality and ease of learning.

LOL no automatics oh well.Im just kind of nervous about letting out the clutch and giving it to much gas,or not enough gas, then whaT????POPPIN A WHEELIE then landin on my ass.Lookin like a fool.Susiki is giving 2 bikes a pair of helmets and gloves for 25 a month!!! what a deal...

You just have to learn how to get a feel for the clutch, and apply just enough throttle to get the bike to move forward smoothly, after you feel the clutch engage. Just remember, that stalling, by not giving it enough gas, is not as bad as letting it get out of control by giving it too much. So you never want to rev the motor up high when you are letting the clutch out.
