Boys and girls, I’m planning my retirement. It’s still a couple years away but it’s coming. I live in the upper midwest and after repeatedly getting a big F YOU with cold and snow for the last six months and enduring one of the worst years for shit weather that I can remember, I’m moving my ass to Florida. I don’t give a shit about hurricanes. I’ll take my chances over living in a freaking igloo for half the damn year. Wife and I are looking for decent and safe places to live on the gulf coast side...Ft Myers, Sarasota... i’m open to ideas if any of you have family or friends who love where they live. Not necessarily on the coast but would like to be within 30 minutes or so

Some of you will say Florida is too hot and humid in the summer. I’ve been down there in the summer and I call bs. Being sweaty to me is a hell of a lot easier than putting on 3 layers of clothes and chopping a place in a snowbank for the damn garbage can every week since oh...October. Some of you guys are living this insanity with me right now. You know. Thanks for any input!

Look into Port Orange.
Great place for familes
It's where I grew up, just outside Daytona Beach.
Sarasota is also a great idea.
Clearwater
St. Pete
Boca Raton (pricier)
Palm Springs (also pricier)
NSB
Ormond Beach

Thanks for that. Yes I love the outdoors. Especially being able to go outside without dressing like an eskimo for half the year. Kids are grown so we’re flexible. Thanks again

Property in Mexico Beach and Eastern Panama City is super cheap right now. Not kidding .Hurricane Michael did so much damage that many thousands have taken their insurance money and moved away. They are selling the property at pennies on the dollar. We're already seeing Russian and Chinese investors snapping up everything they can get. It's a nice area too. The time line for the infrastructure rebuilding is perfect for your retirement.

I have family in Clearwater it’s on the gulf side. Very nice place
I'm in the same boat, same age, in upstate NY. Been looking at St Pete lately. definitely prefer the gulf side. Also, seems to be a real estate bubble down there getting ready to pop

Only thing I didn’t care for personally is it’s so flat there, But the beaches are amazing

Living in NY for 34 years and hating the fucking snow, I've been in south florida for about 4 years now. Let me just say visiting the heat and living in it are 2 different things. Now I'm not saying I would take the snow over the heat, because there's no fucking chance I would move back to that shit. However the heat fucking wears on ya. Maybe it's a little better on the gulf side, but f you look forward to those 60 degree days down here. They don't come very often, but hey you're retiring anyways so congrats on that.

Thanks! The heat I can take. I used to live down south back in my military days so I know what it’s like to live there. I’ll take it. Anytime someone down there starts bitching about the heat all they need to do just take a quick trip up here and it’ll all be put back into proper perspective lightning fast LOL

This fine photo is part of my yard where I regularly have had to go shovel and snow blow trails for my dogs so they can simply go out and take a shit. And you up north guys with pets know how fucking great it is in the spring having to rake up and shovel 100 pounds of swampy dog shit that’s under the snow. Good times. Yeah, you’ll never hear me bitch about heat.
