I'll take 3 days. The 100% BB experiment should be a train wreck by now. On the edge of my seat.

I just went and check and this is what I am seeing:

100% BB is in rough shape but less than I would have thought. The whole inside of the "tubing" is completely corroded and the spike tip fell off. This is without me agetating it. It was just the weight of the tip that finally broke it off of the corroded piece. The tip is still clear. It makes me wonder what the difference is in the material between parts of these:




You can see the satilite dish looking piece has more corrosion on it and is starting to get "fuzzy" like it is disintegrating.




This might be hard to see but it looks like the rubber is disintegrating from the inside and is pulling away from the blue outter housing. There is about a mm or 2 gap right where the red arrow points. Ill try to see if I can get better pictures:

As for the 80%MCT/20%BB, this is in "decent" shape. The biggest issue I can tell is that the MCT/BB is making the plastic really maluable/soft. The spike on the tip has a little pressure on it and you can see here that is bending under the weight of the floating end and that is not from the refraction. I should be able to pull it out and see if anyone wants me to dive in there with a tweezers:







Otherwise, the housing looks pretty decent other than this. This looks a little concerning. It looks like the inside of the tube is starting to degrade. I can't be 100% for sure but I don't think that was there yesterday:

EDIT: I looked at the pictures from yesterday and this lamination or whatever it is WAS there yesterday. So this is NOT from corrosion.




And it looks like MCT/BB is pooling outside of the tube in the housing. This is just an observation based on what I am seeing. I don't recall that being there yesterday:

Correct me, but with the valve set up under normal use on these spikes....does the residual material after a draw stay on the internals or fall back down into the vial?

The ones that I have seem to keep pressure/suction on the inside. When I came back to my vials the next day when I was using these, they always still had oil on the inside of them. It acts like a syringe where you pull up on the plunger and the suction keeps the oil inside until an air bubble is introduced.

The 100% BB one is in a really bad condition.
Ive got some minibore and standard bore IV hosing which i used for filtering which started breaking down when i i was filtering with it...maybe I should soak them in BB and take a look what happens..

Let it ride at least a couple more days. Don't want anyone saying you interfered with it. Lets see how long till visible degradation happens. My vote.

Now, if anyone was really wanting/hoping that the BB didn't affect the vial spike, it was me. Maybe not more than BBBG but for different reasons. I have 100 of them and loved using them for the 2 weeks I did. He can't seem to meet you in the middle due to pride from what I can tell.

Anywho, my .02$, it really seems like whether you want to believe it or not, they are not a good idea to use with any solvents. If we care about "harm reduction" and worry about microplastics in our water, doesn't seem like a great idea to use these.

That guy does not seem to understand that plastic ≠ plastic. Almost everything around us is made of plastic, some chemically inert, majority aren't. The weak link in insulin syringe is probably the rubber plunger, not so much the plastic.

Chemically inert syringes, spikes, and whatever not are significant more expensive and harder to find.

Yup. I totally agree. I have lint roller covers on them so they don't get contaminated or pulled open. Ghetto "evidence sealed bag" I guess you could call it. Not great but its fine for this:

Well, that's one box I can clear out of the supplies room. Very disappointing, but bless you for your endeavors in the name of science and harm reduction. I've surely got enough microplastics floating around in this old carcass as it is.

So next up...let's drop some muscle tissue into 20% BB and see how it holds up. Anybody got access to a cadaver? Just to be clear: one that is already deceased. You can't assume too much with this crowd.

Is this for EU?

I've switched to these.
All plastic, no silicone oil or rubber.
Luer slip tho, can't seem to find luer lock that's reasonably priced.

Don't worry, when I get my complimentary bottle of Frog Juice from PPL for the 2mL they shorted me, I should have enough to run an immersion test with them. We'll see how inert they are.
