my current situation... please help

:( First off, I am a 16 year old (17 in 2 weeks..) who was wrongly placed on HRT (androgel/androderm) as I was anorexic and my body shut down. My primary medical doctor simply placed me on 7.5g of androgel per day and did what was typical, he treated the symptoms, not the cause... well anyways, I have been on the gel for about 7 months now, and have just gotten to seeing an endocrinologist--I shouldve seen one first-- and he is starting HCG treatment on me to get my boys running again. I recieved my first shot yesterday (5/3/05) of 3000IU and will be tested monday (about 6 days later, as he tells me HCG takes ~5 days to peak levels of testosterone) to see if the HCG boosted my testosterone levels. If the levels show that they increased noticeably, then the next step is to continue administering the HCG while slowly backing off on the androgel, while testing my levels of testosterone to make sure they are staying consistant, until I am completely off. From there, he plans on running Clomid for a few weeks to get my body regulated. He thinks that I may need testosterone replacement afterwards for life run at a lower dose coupled with HCG shots every few months to keep testicular size.
My question is, does this sound like a reasonable plan for recovering from the improper usage of HRT? The plan is somewhat mapped out as one on steroids would follow to get their nuts back and testosterone flowing naturally again.

Woa Woa Woa Dwight slow down .... That's too complicated for me,i just wanted to give you a reply to make you feel better :D

3000 hcg ? to me it seems a lot at your age. such a high dose is used on older patients
when their leydig cell response is weak.

just wait for the results and keep us updated.

Do you think 3000IU will cause me harm if administered only one time?? I am concerned at the sound of this, because I am aware that HCG is toxic in excess to the Leydic cells and dont want to have even more problems at this point.

I am not a Dr., and I don't know the HCG dosage, but it seems like a reasonable and intelligent plan... slow movement and continious testing. Keep us updated with your progress.

According to the hcg package insert, large dosages are given for purposes of determining whether the testicles can function normally. It sounds to me like your doctor knows what he's doing. Hang in there, bro.

bros i said it seemed a lot for just one shot.

they usually spread out the doses 2 and 3 times a week.

this was quoted from the American Association of clinical endocrinologist guidelines:

"The initial regimen of hCG is usually 1,000 to 2,000 IU administered intramuscularly two to three times a week. The clinical response is monitored and testosterone levels are measured about every 2 to 3 months. Dosage adjustments of hCG may be needed to determine an optimal schedule. Increasing doses of hCG may reduce testicular stimulation by down-regulating the end-organ; thus, a more optimal result may occur with less frequent or reduced dosing. The half-life of hCG is long."

on the other hand hcg toxicity does not affect a vital organ such as the liver.

your doc is using a protocol that others have used and posted here and elsewhere. Keep us in the loop. Welcome to the crowd.

what the dr. is doing is running an hcg test. that is where they give you a blast then check it it stimulated you . if so then they know you are not primary. this is the way it is done.

thanks for the replies. I became a little worried after hearing the concern, I must admit, but now I understand fully. He simply wants to see if my testicles are capable of producing testosterone. I either will go in for bloodwork tomorrow (5/6/05) or monday, as after doing further reading on HCG I have learned it has two peaking points as far as testosterone levels go, one at about 2 days and one at about 5. friday is a little over 2 days after, and monday is a little over 5 days, so I figure why not go in on the earlier peak to see what happened? The sooner the better IMHO.. I have a follow up appointment on either next tuesday or wednesday to see what happened and talk about our next course of action for my treatment. I am so thankful that I have a quality resource such as this forum to go to for any questions in the meantime. My generation is spoiled. :o In the past one would be left in the clouds until a doc could get to them. Damn I feel lucky. :D

Thanks a lot bros, I will definately be back to update everyone on my progress as soon as I know any new info.

Peace.

Does anyone know if his body can recover from the use of androgel?
Its crazy what this doctor did to this kid....he is 17!!!!!!
Some doctors are crazy!!!!!!

ok.... I just got off the phone not too long ago with my endocrinologist. He told me that he wants me to stop taking my androgel immediately for the remainder of the treatment with HCG and/or clomid. Is this a wise choice..? Also, he said that he wants to continue to administer HCG if my testes respond and start clomid later if my LH levels become measurable to eliminate the possibility of a Hypothalamus/pituitary issue in excreting LH... But I thought HCG was suppressive?? Wouldn't it keep my LH levels from becoming readable?? Right now they measure <0.3 (both LH and FSH). He said that despite being on HCG, I should attain a readable level regardless...

I am a little distressed and confused at this point.. sorry if the above paragraph looks like a pile of shit, but honestly at this point in time it is the best I can manage... :(

now we're talking business !

there's no point to be running androgel on the stimulation test and while on hcg anyways.

hcg is not suppressive, there are a bunch of studies to be done before reaching that conclusion.

glad you found a good doctor. take care bro.

I have a question, is it normal to feel hungry all the time while on HCG?? I feel like I am starving no matter how much I eat or how frequently.. Also, I have insomnia and feel really calm/relaxed. I also feel a slight increase in my libido..

If it's increasing your testosterone output, then yes, its normal to feel hungier. Same with libido. My recommendation: Pizza and peanut butter! :) It also sounds like you're experiencing the sense of well being that many report on hcg. I really hope things work out for you, bro. Do keep us posted!

one thing though, my boys still are pretty atrophied.. will this likely diminish after further administration of HCG?

Also, how long roughly does it take for HCG's testosterone-raising effects to completely exit your system? This means that your testes re-atrophy back to their previous size, as well as your testosterone returning to baseline values. Sorry I am asking so many questions, but I figure I'll ask while I can.

Why does HCG give the feeling of well being? I don't feel it when using test. Is there another reason other than it raising test?

Swale's theory is that it has a much more global effect than just Leydig stimulation. I forget the exact mechanism that he put forward, something having to do with cytochrome P450. A long time ago I knew what P450 is, but it escapes me now. Maybe energy transduction at the subcellular level.
