My fellow gun people

Completely agree bud. But like you said how do we make it a 1 man show. It does chew through shit. It keeps your fukin head down.

AK is alright. I have a respect for it. Most of them are decades old with not so great maintenance and work decently well

EDIT: shit Rambo made it a one man show with that M60. He was feedin that pig!

With one arm pointing that shit straight up. He was pissed. Now I want to watch that.

Rambo 3 is hands down the best. I always lose my shit at this scene.

And when he plays chicken with a helicopter AND WINS.

Sorry OP. Rambo is my all time favorite movie series. The scene in Rambo 2 when he is picking off the NVA one by one, and the identical scene in Rambo 3 when he's picking off the Spetsnaz in the cave.... amazing movies.

What is that animal game they play on horseback. Is it a goat they try and cross a line with or something. You know what my dumbass is talking about.

H+K is working on a round right now that will split the difference. I'll speak only from my experience where I saw almost no enemy wearing body armor over 5 deployments. I think 7.62 is a great round for sniping. But put into a full auto assault rifle I feel it becomes very inaccurate vs say a 5.56. And against no body armor it's flying right through you. I'd much rather be shot with a 7.62 then 5.56. Although I'd prefer not being shot at all. I love the M-14 and it's 7.62 as a sniper weapons system. I don't like the 7.62 if we're talking about using that round as an assault rifle.

Numerous loads for the 7.62 available - doesn't have to be full SAAMI loads pushing FMJ.

You wouldn't rather be hit with a 7.62 if I'm shooting. And medium 5.56 loads with FMJ, that's definitely more survivable. You can't compare the two.

Is your complaint that spray and pray is easier with the 5.56? I'll be deadlier with 7.62 in singleshot mode, and far more economical with the rounds. Know your rifle.

Agree you can't compare them. Firing full auto I can keep a damn good grouping from say a M-4. Let's say you go full auto with a 74u. That bitch will be alot tougher to keep under control. Sure you can semi auto it but that's my whole point. It's a great sniping round. If I'm choosing a round for an assault rifle I'm not choosing 7.62. And with no body armor on I'd still rather take a round from a 7.62. Headshot not counting because your dead from both. I come at this from an AK vs M-4 comparison. And I'm probably a little biased because the M-4 was what I used. So in those platforms I choose 5.56. Because if I need to go full auto I'm still very accurate. I'll stand up when the camel fukrs go full auto. I can deliver more lead down range with accuracy with my M-4 then AK. Which I've shot the shit out of. If your telling me the 7.62 round is a better semi auto round with greater punch from distance I agree. So yes in a assault rifle system I say no to the 7.62. I feel it's way over powered to deliver as accurate fire as an M-4 on full auto. Just my take comparing those 2 rifles. And I don't worry about being shot. I'm a JTAC. I get on the horn with an A-10 for a CAS run. Bye bye enemy. LOL. If that's your weapon I'm fine with that. And it's a solid choice. Just not mine.

Just doesn't put down a cracked out cave dweller like the movies depict.
I have yet to see a moving, breathing and fighting enemy that has experienced full cranal evacuation. Love me the 5.56. Easy to shoot, flies straight and the sheer amount of damage itll do once it enters the human body is terrible. It bounces off things inside and most of it is irreparable. And your right, it doesnt work like the movies some times

Rambo is the GOAT for sure for unrealistic war movies. I love the Rambo character. In fact i love Stallone. I always hoped he acted like Rocky in real life. That would be so cool.
Saving Private Ryan was the best war movie ever IMO. And also the most realistic.

You Marines and your 5.56 are damn accurate. Massive amounts of head shots from 350 meters plus. And your spot on about it's "tumbling" damage. The 5.56 round dumps all it's kinetic energy on impact. And like you eloquently put it, a cavernous wound is created.

We have to be. Thats all they give us! We always do more with less! And yes, the tumbling damage is horrible. Its like getting shot with a multi edged arrow tip. It goes it but it aint coming back out the same way. Creates wounds that are difficult to stitch but INSIDE the body is where the carnage is created. Like u said. Rather be shot by the larger 7.62. At least itll go thru!

No doubt bud. The smallest of the branches, but also the nastiest. Even though I still call my youngest brother a pussy for being a Marine. I went USAF, our middle brother went USAF, and our youngest, and dumbest brother went USMC. Way to break the family tradition. The Marine is a cop and our other brother is a corrections officer. Have a good Sunday trukk.

U2 bud :)

Uncle Sam's misguided children
One of my squad leaders was a marine who got out, went to college, then enlisted in the army and came in as an E5. Badass dude.
I've seen 5.56 go in the chest and come out the hip. They just take the path of least resistance and wreak havoc on soft tissue.

Bottom line, being shot by anything would suck.

All depends on the bullet....

https://www.lehighdefense.com/products/308-winchester-110gr-high-velocity-controlled-chaos-ammo?variant=1063921156

There's a 110 grain bullet that exits at 3,400 fps and fragments based on hydraulic pressure - i.e. based on impact. Light enough recoil, flat trajectory, and massive destruction delivered.

You really prefer getting hit with that than the typical 55 grain 223 round launching at 2,800 fps?

.223 pfffft - that's a round that was designed to make life easy for dumb grunts, make it easy for them to fire full auto, was never thought to be more effective in the hands of a skilled operator.

Sure, like the AK, it makes for fun short distance action shooting, but give me a 308 when it gets serious.

Like Chris Kyle always said.
Do u think it matters if u get shot in the cranium if its a 9mm or a .45?
Nope, cuz u shot him in da head:cool:

My only probem with the 308 is the price. Not to worried about assault weapon application, i live in california so that is off the table for me anybow.

What do ya mean by flat trajectory? Rifles are made in a way that the trajectory arcs up to allow for further flight time while fighting gravity.

I can about guarantee you already know this, and flat trajectory means something completely different. I don't know much about ballistics. Just shoot stuff, idk.
