can anyone out there help me?

Forget Ian King. Blech!

Check out the 5x5 program by JohnSmith (a college strength coach and also coaches Olympic athletes) in the "Tribute to JS" sticky at the top of the training forum.

why?

why do you want that program...what works for one may not work for others...i would go buy a good strength and conditioning book by charles poliquin or ian king...

the workouts for a kid i was gonna help train this winter for football.....i dont necessarily want to use the entire programs...i just wanted some of the info on speed, explosiveness.....ie.. plyos, cleans ,.....i have a basic concept on all the other training...just need help in those areas....by the way the kid is 15 yrs old , 6-5" 285 pounds, and is only in his sophomore year...hes a standout football player...bench 350 this year without having a clue....want to work on his speed and explosiveness.....any help would be appreciated....

thanks for the info too bob...

In the beginning, sure youd probably be more sore than usual if youre prone to soreness. Dont let "common knowledge" (ie, magazines and your preconceptions about program design) cloud your judgement about the effectiveness of the 5x5 program.

the LSU program, at least the one they were using a year or two ago when they was a really good, was a great program. their strength coach was a student of gayle hatch and their program was modeled off of his. gayle is a damn good olympic lifting coach and super guy as well as a strength coach to a wide variety of athletes, he flat out knows his stuff.

strength coaches move around so much, its impossible for me to say if they still have the same guy or are still using the same program. but a LOT of recent national championship football teams have had gayle hatch influenced programs or coaches who had been students of his at one time and modeled their program off of his.

what gayle does really isnt that special, but its well thought out and result producing. high frequency of training, focus on explosive movements, high training volume, and a well thought out system of periodization, changing the volume and intensity over weeks and months.

No idea, but it doesnt hurt to ask. Just explain in the email why you want it and what potential, if any, the player has for football. Does your kid have a chance at playing in college?

the kid started as a freshman on the varsity on a state title team....also has all kinds of schools looking at him already....they like him but told him if he wants to play defense he has to get faster.....the kid asked for help...so i want to help get him off on the right foot....luckily when i was younger i had a few guys who took time to show me how to do things...i want to be like that for him...

both please

Coach, I'm from New Orleans and had a bunch of athletes from my area play there. Herb Tyler, former starting QB was one of them. Would you mind posting or sending me a copy of both the Strength and Conditioning program? Thanks! texasranger@cyber-rights.net
