Need to lose fat, gain muscle!

Why should dieting preclude you from weight training. Just be aware that you won't really grow or get stronger, but you can maintain what you have already.

Grizzly, you wont grow or get stronger when you diet because it is not possible to gain muscle and lose fat at the same time, as I have previosly stated. "A dieting program without lifting is totally missing the boat" I do agree with you on that one Bob, but dropping 20-30 pounds of fat can really only be done a couple of ways, cardio and calorie restriction, so either burn it up, or don't give your muscles enough food to grow, either way there's no room for muscle growth.

And I previously refuted.

You can drop that 20-30 pounds without cardio through the use of only calorie manipulation and lifting. Cardio is optional.

you can absolutely lose fat and gain muscle at the same time. Take some fatass that doesn't lift. Get him lifting and and restructure his diet and he will lose fat and gain muscle at the same time. For people already in decent shape the same will occur but to a smaller extent. The scale might not change a lot but the body composition is definitely changing

Where did I say that he would grow bigger and stronger? I specifically stated that he should be aware that he "WON'T get any bigger or stronger", although you can still get a little stronger while dieting. PL guys routinely drop weight and hit PR's all the time.

A dieting program without lifting is totally missing the boat! Just look at all the normal (read: non-lifting) Americans who diet. Just look around your office. They all say "I just lost 20 pounds." Thats great, but they still look like shit. All the did was restrict calories and walk around the block. Without the weight training, you might as well just stay fat.

Quit picking on Jarrod and his legion of followers, Bob. They feel good about themselves and that's all that counts...yeah, right.

I hope I dont offend anyone, but I know some people agree with me on this...GNC products frickin suck! I am sorry, but there are so many more companies out there that produce higher quality supps than them. Do some research before you buy/order. Stick to the basics too.....Protien, Creatine, Glutamine, multi-vitamins...good luck brotha

Yeah, I wasn't planning on buying GNC brand stuff..... except for maybe the vitamins/minerals...

Ok, guys. Since this subject is definitely drawing the opinions straight out of people now, I wanna clarify the subject a little more.

How the hell can I get my body to drop it's fat content and keep (if not gain) strength and lean body mass? In other words, how can I get rid of the body fat faster, while still doing the strength/resistence training i'm doing now?

The Ultimate Diet 2.0. Works extremely well. The books covers the reasons behind the diet, but also details lifting and the nutritional aspect.

As for GNC stuff, I actually like their protein. I think it was teh 5 pound tub I used. Good taste and wasnt terribly expensive when youd buy it on sale. But overall, a lot of other supp stores carry a larger supply with better prices.

Perhaps your problem is the "strenght/resistance training that [you're] doing now". Are you squatting and deadlifting? If not, get on the damn ball!

Sorry Grizzly I wasn't clear, I was just giving reason behind your statement.

Yeah, I do squats, dead-lifts and power-cleans 1 day each week. What major fat-loss advantages do these exercises provide?

I know the power-cleans get my heart racing. haha

THey help build muscle and preserve muscle while you are constricting calories and losing fat.

Plus they release certain chemicals blah, blah, blah and they're just plain hard! They burn more calories than doing DB curls.

Check your squats, though. I can say with relative certainty that your squats are 8 inches too high. (Nothing personal, but eveyone in the gym but a select few squat like shit) Get your ass WAY down there in the bottom positio

no need to go carb free bro! Your body needs those carbs especially after workouts. It makes me laugh all those people who lose so much weight due to atkins type dieting, and they still look like shit. get a good meal replacement shake like Myoplex lite or some shit. And FYI GNC sells everything under the sun it's the dumbass employees that suck. Eat clean, do cardio, work out!

Oh yeah you wanna get your heart rate up do moderately heavy barbell rows for 10-12 reps then go directly into deadlifts for the same rep count. Takes me at least 2 min to come down.

Oh yeah? Whys that? Also, what is your definition of "carb free?"

As opposed to all the people that use a mixed-macro diet and look like shit?

Yeah, my friend/motivator makes me and my roommate squat real low when we do them. He's always sayin' "No, no, put your ass down. LOWER, DAMNIT! haha"

Yeah, we do the bent-over rows w/ barbells, once a week, too.
