Case details:
• 22-year-old healthy white female, Fitzpatrick skin type II
• Used Melanotan II nasal spray for tanning purposes
• Noted oral pigmentation shortly after starting the spray
• Presented with a rapidly growing pedunculated nodule on the attached gingiva over the upper central incisors
• Histopathology confirmed mucosal malignant melanoma
• Treatment: surgical resection followed by immunotherapy
Authors conclusion:
“Risk factor analysis suggests that the most likely cause of the mucosal melanoma in this healthy young patient is related to the use of Melanotan II nasal spray.”
