Newbie guide to insulin?

thanks. Why don't people just get their carbs from like vegetables or fruit rather than junk like fruit juices and stuff?
Ease of use and easy digestion. With fast acting insulin you need fast and easily digestible carbs around your workout.

Try eating 100grams of carbs from broccoli and apples. You will be stuffed full of fiber trying to lift.
Vegetables and fruit are fine when spread throughout the rest of the day. Just not when you’re trying to bang in a bunch of carbs, protein, and insulin in a short period

This thread is so funny. Chocolate milk??
What is your BG an hour after consuming meals? What is your A1c? How many carbs are you consuming in each meal and are they the same every day (They should be if you think you need insulin)

Fair but I think 1.5lbs of blueberries would be really easy to eat. I can smash a 1lb package of blueberries in 3 minutes no problem. Blended in a shake would be even quicker but frankly not really necessary.

Mangos, blackberries, pineapple, plenty of fruit I can think of that I could eat 1.5lbs of in 5minutes without blinking.

1lb of potato, I could eat that if I was hungry, I could easily eat that over an hour.

Chocolate no-fat milk sounds a lot healthier than juices. Lots of good vitamins, protein.

Mate enough of the chocolate milk you not Sam Sulek..

If you train and eat correctly you will have very minimal fat gain on insulin.. Especially if already sub 10%BF..

Apple juice is great for intra workout just keep sipping it.. Make sure you have food in you prior to using insulin.. Give plenty of time for clearance if multi dosing as not to start a stacking effect..

Lol seriously. Everyone getting fat on insulin is using insulin wrong. Keep carbs the exact same as they’ve been for the past week or so to gain a pound a week, start slin low (1 iu per 30 carbs), then slowly increase until BG is in a great spot

And if you happen to dip a little hypo, pull a couple carbs from the next meal instead of just eating carbs that aren’t in your regular meal intake, it’s not rocket science

So are we just eating carbs to prevent hypo, or for performance at all?

Because sometimes I feel like I don't need intra workout carbs, probably due to the meal I had before, and then sometimes I do feel like I need a bit. It feels like I can certainly get away with much less than 100g for 10ou novo-r

And you get zero GI upset from this? I love blueberries but couldn't imagine smashing 1 lb all in one go. Lots of weird prebiotic fibres in blueberries seem more tolerable in smaller doses. Or maybe you have gut of steel.

You could totally make this into an app. Combine with CGM and even an idiot could do it.

Edit: wait we probably don't want idiots doing it

How in the world are you getting upset from blueberries it's like the most natural thing you can eat lol. If you blended it in a bullet it'd you could make like a small cup you could just shoot (or sip I guess).

But you know, whatever fruit you want, 1.5lb will be roughly 100 grams of carbs. Which honestly I don't think you need that much, 1lb would probably be fine as 6-8g per iu.

1.5lb of blueberries is a lot. With all the fiber in there it’s a lot to take down and it sounds like if it’s normal or easy to eat that high of volume, you are likely not eating enough to need insulin

Thanks for the clarification. Hitting someone with that much fibre all at once sounds like a recipe for GI distress.

Average US average intake is 17 grams/d as per NHANES.

Ridiculously high fibre:calorie ratio in blueberries.

I do have a pretty tough stomach, when I'm bulking I'm usually drinking a gallon of milk a day.

My usual diet a day is like 1-2lbs of fruit, 1-2lbs of vegetables, 1lb of protein. Then a few random stuff like a scoop of protein powder, oatmeal, eggs, glass of milk/soymilk, a protein bar, small bit of meat or beans.

Well, from what I understand, bulking is really only encouraged so you don't go hypo, but I'm not doing a large dose of insulin, and I'm gaining anyways on my diet.

No man you have it backwards. It’s not encouraged so you don’t go hypo. Insulin is encouraged so you can get down all the food you need to eat. It sounds like you have no issues getting down your food and processing the carbs which means you don’t need insulin.

Exactly this.. Sounds to me like absolutely no need for the insulin yet..

Does this formila count for Lantus as well, Or only fast acting insulin? Or does it just not matter

I'm not sure I understand. Are you saying people use insulin to increase appetite?

As stated Insulin should be used last in the whole process.. Once you are maxed out with food the insulin will help to get a bit more down and put it to better use.. Your body simply can't produce the amounts you can administer.. It's another tool and a very dangerous tool at that.. As @buzzingonaas has stated you are making gains which means your food is been utilised.. No need for the insulin..

You should be researching insulin in all of its forms.. Had you done this you would not be needing to ask these questions.. I know you want a quick 101 but this stuff isn't like HGH or AAS.. It's a totally different animal..

I've been researching insulin for months and I feel like I've read everything.

A lot of stuff says what to do, but not necessarily the whys on it. Also a lot is on the rapid stuff and I'm using humulin-R.

From what I've read, 10g per iu is to be safe, but a lot of stuff out there also says you want to start dropping that for optimizaton. I've also read that 10iu of insulin isn't really going to be dangerous anyways.

I've been using 10iu for about a week pre-workout, the stuff seems great. My diet and usage of other compounds has been dialed in for a while now.
