Not that impressive stats but trying hard.

Hello all.

I am a 54 year guy who has been training for about 10 years. I spent my 20's,30's and early 40's working 12+ hours a day and supporting a family of 5, so not much time for anything else. In my mid 40's I was financially set and had bit more spare time so decided it was time to try and put some muscle on this skinny 5 foot 10, 60 kilo body. Being someone that is a 100% in or not at all type of person I did a ton of research in to nutrition, training, supplements and there my journey began. I ate 4500 to 5000 calories a day of quality food, trained 5 to 6 days a week alternating between split routine and superset training and worked out in the 8-15 rep range all well staying natty. I peaked at 80 kilo and about 12-14% body fat 12 months ago before I started having bad shoulder and forearm pain. Not wanting to lose what I had gained I tried to battle through the pain, probably not a good idea. The last 8 months has been ultrasounds, mri's, cortisone injections, tons of physio and no lifting. All of this has been bloody frustrating since my shoulder still ain't right, probably expected at my age. A couple of months ago I decided to do some research into HGH, peptides like BPC-157, TB-500 and steroids hoping to help with injury and recovery, hence I ended up here on MESO. I have done a ton of reading here over the last couple of months hoping to gain more knowledge and hopefully have some helpful input. I must say some of the threads can be quite entertaining sometimes. Anyway that's probably enough rambling on from me, I hope you all have a great day.

Welcome to meso!

Welcome to the board! Love your username.

Yah injuries are brutal! How’s the shoulder now? Still no lifting? Are you able to still train legs, biceps, back, abs, etc. Or does the shoulder pain impede everything.

Can you describe the shoulder injury and the pain?

Hope you heal up soon and get back to crushing your fitness goals.

Thanks man! Yeah username describes me to a T. Even now in my mid 50's l am eating close to 5000 calories a day and have dropped from 80 kilo down to 73 kilo in the 8 months l haven't trained due to injury. It actually sucks to have such a fast metabolism.
As for shoulder pain front and side raise movements cause pain down front and side of shoulder into front and side of bicep, bench press and pull up movements cause same pain. As for injury doc reckons rotator cuff damage with minor cartilage separation, inflamed Bursa and frozen shoulder. To technical for me, all l know is all upper body stuff seems to cause decent pain. I did see the broomstick exercises you spoke about in a thread a while back so l mentioned them to my physio a few weeks ago, he made some smart ass comment do you want to make your shoulder worse so l didn't try them.

Welcome. I have a lot of respect to guys in their 40's and 50's and on still lifting and kicking ass!

But, a picture tells a thousand of words...
Thanks man! Yeah pictures do tell a thousand words but to be honest l didn't bother with progress photo's a long the way. Might have to change that when l get back into training and put some muscle back on.

Welcome to forum, man!

Yeah definitely egos, 3 month before injury started l took up cricket again, a sport l hadn't played for 30 years, l feel good, of course l can bowl and throw like the young fella's more than half my age. Half way through the season my shoulder and forearm are cooked, but of course l'll now take painkillers every game to get through the season, l wouldn't want to look weak. By the end of the season l cant even sleep on my right shoulder from the pain, but l will keep lifting weights anyway. So now l am paying the price, 8 months of treatment with no lifting and shoulder is still not right. Oh well l suppose even us old fool's can live and learn by their mistakes. Or can we!

Yes, it was worth healing the injury, and not taking painkillers. But you're right, we fools learn from our mistakes.

I'm new here as well. Welcome to the forums dude!

Too bad we can't turn back time and not make these mistakes.
I sure wish l could turn back time. There would have been no cricket for me.
The most frustrating part is while your transforming your body with weight training and making progress you look in the mirror each day and gain a sense of wellbeing, motivation and confidence. Then when the shit hits the fan and you get a debilitating injury that you can't work out with, you look in the mirror each day watching all that hard work just fading away.
Very depressing.

Oh, how right you are, it’s just exactly described about the benefits of power and how it motivates and when you get injured, how it upsets and saddens that everything that has been achieved flies into the trash can.
