Hi, this is kind of an odd question, and I hope this is an appropriate forum.
My girlfriend's doctor just prescribed to her a new form of birth control called "NuvaRing." (www.nuvaring.com) Basically, this is a plastic ring that is inserted into the vagina and left there for three weeks out of the month. The ring contains an estrogen/progestin mixture that is steadily released from the plastic.
I am concerned because this drug is obviously designed to be administered transdermally. When I have sex with her (we typically do not use condoms), some amount of this drug will be administered to me, through the skin of my penis. I have no idea what this amount will actually be.
My question is this: Will this drug negatively affect my testosterone production, or cause any other negative effects? Referring to what I know about AAS use, estrogens are very good at shutting down the HTPA. I'm afraid the more sex I have, the less test I will produce, which will mean less sex...
For the record, I am not on any form of TRT or AAS.
This ring seems like a silly way to administer the drug, since it could affect any male partners. Especially since it's such an easy thing to switch back to the Pill.
