Obtaining bloodwork in Canada

Hi,

I'm sorry if this has already been posted, but I didn't find anything related during my search.

As any canuck on these forums might have experienced, it a bit harder to get bloodwork done, at least in my experience.

My doctor is reluctant to give me a full blood test and even when a blood test is done, they keep the result and tell me my bloods fine.

Does anyone know what to do or say to the doctors to get a full blood test done here in ontario or canada?

So first of all, they cannot hold back your test results. If your regular doctor won't print you, your results...go to a walk in clinic and ask them. There might be a small fee ($10) for the printing.

Next what I learnt on doing my blood work is that it looks like my test was capped. Not at the seemingly common 1500 test but mine was around the 2500 mark. So you might have to request an uncapped test.
With that being said, you should also specify that you want free and total testosterone.

Just a few things I learnt.
Finding the right Dr that understands safety and is willing to help monitor your health would be the first and foremost concern.
My Dr ran my results but wants to refer me to a specialist as she knows nothing about the results.

Good luck!

what about e2 levels how do I get that checked, isn't there anything else we need tested

I asked my doc and he said that he'd have to report it just like if I came in with a gun shot wound he'd have to report it. o_O

Im going to try the naturopath that I got pre blood work from or a walk in clinic. Such a pain getting blood work even though I'm wiling to pay for it in order to this responsibly

They can't report you.... just don't openly admit and find find a new doc.

Your results are confidential. You could sue him for breach of that. I think.

Wow you guys make bloodwork sound impossible or something. Go to any walk in clinic. Tell them you haven't been feeling right for the last month. Ask to have everything checked out with your bloodwork (full panel). That easy gents....

Lol completely agree with this guy, so easy anywhere in Canada. Just go to a walk in clinic and ask.

I agree with CdnGuy, just ask and it shouldn't be a problem. The only thing they may have meant by reporting is.... reporting the results back to your doc. That's it. Your doc will have it on file but it's confidential.

Plus be confident when asking so you don't sound sketched out as if you're hiding something.

Before you go to the clinic, stand in front of a mirror and practice asking for it... sound confident and you shouldn't have any issues.

I recommend 80 hours of hypnotherapy first. You really need to feel the role, not just act it, feel it, in your soul, deep down, you need true conviction in your desire, commit to it, commit fully, be one with the ruse.

Or just do what I did pay a naturopath and the lab a total of $700 for a full blood and hormone panel :/

Haha... like find a pot of gold filed with GH and must take it home... something like that ;)

No seriously, ironically enough, I've seen this kid when I had my bloods done in June, he walked in the clinic and struggled through his words trying to figure out how to ask without sounding like a meathead. Lol

I'll try that. But won't the doc get into "what symptoms are you feeling?" What do you guys reply to that?

Also if you are doing mid cycle you prob don't need full panel. so what would ask for in that case ?

I did that for pre cycle. Naturo ($200)+ labs($950) came to $1150. :( I asked for specific list of tests. Maybe that's why it cost more. Didn't know I could ask for full blood panel. I do now.

I pick and chose my tests. Got some rarer ones too like igf-1 and GH levels. The doc had a book of all the tests available. Some like the one for DHT was alone $200 which I was like f that and didn't get even though I wanted to know.

Prohibitively expensive on a repeat basis. I'll try walk in next time but it will depend on the specific doctor you get and you likely won't get to chose the tests.

Yes it is too expensive to do it often. I see so many guys in the gym who obviously cycle. I wonder how they do it.

The naturo I saw had a file with a list of tests and costs and she picked each one that I had listed. I had told her what I was planning to do. I doubt a walk in will do that without a specific reason as to why.
