Guys
is there a sequence for heating the oil ba bb and the raw?
i was simply heating the oil ba bb together then adding the raw when all warmed up and give it some stir for a few minutes.

I would add oil then bb then raw until mixture is completely clear/raws dissolved. Then I would pull it off the heat and add the BA and mix then filter. BA is volatile and will boil off the solution leaving you with less than you expect in solution when your finished unless you add it last.

Putting BA in last is reasonable. But in my 20 years brewing i have just put all the liquids in then added slowly add the powder to keep it from clumping. I am not to worried about the BA evaporating as i use a water bath and the less the 200F degrees for the 2 minutes the solution is in the water and the BA is dissolved it the oil wouldn't allow much to evaporate as i see it.

Yes as long as you put liquids in before raws it really does not matter. Just out of habit I put the stuff least volatile in first, that would be the oil.

BA starts to evaporate out of solution at 20 degrees C I believe so it should absolutely be added last just before filtering but to each their own.

I have to think that once the BA is mixed into the oil the evaporation rate would be at a slower rate. And it would have to rise to the surface which would be difficult as it is being agitated the whole time. And as i use 2% and from pharmaceutical companies that i have had over the years only sometimes use 1% it would seem that i may still be over kill. But putting it in last makes sense. I just never have and have had no issues.

Am I the only one using the old school basskiler tren pellets method lol. Raws, BA and BB, heat and dissolve then add oil let it mix under heat till everything is clear then filter while warm.

Buck: To be fair the difference is probably negligible at the volumes we are brewing I am sure your method is sound.

Declan: That is essentially the same method I use, as long as raws arent added and heated at a high temp without liquid your probably safe and sound as well.

Have I read the posts correctly? Heat the carrier oil and the powder, then cool it down and add BB+BA? I did it differently - GSO + BB + powder. The temperature varied depending on the agent. Then I cooled it to about 45 C and added BA. Bad or good?

It's fine to do it that way. I like to add BB to the carrier Oil to help the raws dissolve more easily. Narta likes to add it after raws are dissolved to prevent evaporation probably as BB is somewhat volatile. Either way is likely just fine. There are alot of ways to go about it.

I have actually tested this. (Cause I am anal) BA is much less volatile than we think.

At 125 degrees Celsius (I am a low heat guy) I got near zero gram (.001 scale) loss after 1 hour on pure BA.

I still add at room temp as last step and allow mixing for 1 hour (cause I’m extra anal) due to it being the bacteriostatic agent.

Thank you for the hands on data brother, good to know it is extremely minimal loss. Appreciate the effort and for sharing.

BB and BA are more than good for 50°C+, I add them after heating the oild because I want to see the raws fully dissolved in oil first (eye ballpark dissolve that is) and then add the solvents partly because I don't like the BB/BA smell. I used to do it all together, had no problems for years.

I understood ? Do you heat oil + powder (raw material) together and then add BB and BA?
