Oil left in bottletop filter membrane

Ive done two brews with a bottle top filters and both when done filtering had about 10 ml of oil less than what was brewed. Using Watman Zapcaps. Is this oil trapped in the filter, and do you guys flush it with clean oil? I know the syringe filters hold about 2ml, not sure on the bottle tops.

I also considered the graduated cylinder i used to measure the carrier could be off. I did some smaller brews with syringe filters and they came out on point. Measuring the BA and BB with syringes.

All filters waste a little oil, even syringe filters.
But 10 ml waste sounds like too much, maybe the whole filter got clogged?
Yes, please try to retrieve and measure the unfiltered amount.

Corning low retention systems hold 5ml according to their website, others hold over 10ml. I looked it up recently... let me find the video....

Yeah check your vacuum source . I just ran 6 different compounds with 6 different filters ( Foxx Autofil 0.2um) and I bet I maybe lost 6mls combine ( roughly 1 ml per filter/compound) one was test E with no BB and it took 2 1/2 hours to filter 500 ml's.
I am new to the brewing game . but a few things I was taught from a very well respected Meso homebrew crew .but was taught to let oil sit on top of filter for at least 5 min so it saturates the filter membrane (made a big difference in filtering) Mainly to keep from tearing filter .
But I also use a 6cfm vacuum pump and use a set of Manifold (A/C )gauges modified and connected and pressure relief valve because it is a bigger pump . but honestly it pulls 22 lbs of vacuum and haven't had to use the relief valve . it works flawless !

Advice just meant for countries where this is legal. Check your local laws:

Filtering 100 ml (just enough for 10 vials) at a time trough Zapcaps is just too bothersome IMO. Zapcaps are just intended for analytical labs running small samples, not for small production runs.

With Polycaps you can easily filter a couple liters in a single run (200 vials). Pretty much set and forget (use hose clamps and sturdy bottles, caps and tubing).

How many milliliters do you all typically run through your bottle top filter? I got 400 ml EQ through before it slowed to a drip. The last 50ml, the 400-450ml part took over an hour.

Best = 100 ml (actually more like 130 ml enough for 10 vials, filled with 11 ml each, and to allow for some wasted oil remaining in filter/media bottle

Average = 250 (20 vials)

400 ml = too much

So Foxx autofil has 500ml filters so does that mean the filter membrane different and can filter more than the 250 ml foxx autofil . I've had both and really couldn't tell any different

Corning 1 liter. Thought I could get at least 500 ml through but 400 ml was max.

Honestly I am not sure. I would figure there would be but from what I just looked at they both look like 90mm filter membranes. It may just be the media bottle that is different. If so I have wasted alot of money going with the 500ml instead of the 250ml

I think I'm just gonna get a proper answer for lab supplier who knows the correct answer . I'll get back to everyone on this simply to find out the truth,
But I'm going to but 3 of them buncher set ups . just having a bit trouble finding filters sold in the US.

See if you can find a (brick and mortar) lab equipment store that sells filters, paying cash.
Capsule type (Polycap and other brands) would be ideal.

Brock and motor just means it has a store front not an internet site. Priblem with that is if you go into a store all yoked out asking for brewing supplies you will probably draw more attention and spend more than you would having it shipped

1 Many hobbies/small business use sterile filtration.

2 You may want to bring some printed literature to the lab supplies store for credibility
i.e.
The level of filtration varies considerably amongst winemakers. Generally, 5 or 1 micron is sufficient for reds, and either 1 micron or 0.45 micron for whites. Generally, the sweeter or clearer the wine, the finer the filtration. In some cases, 0.25 micron is needed for wines for nearly complete assurance of sterility. This filter removes yeast and bacteria. The 0.45 micron removes yeast but not bacteria.
