If you look at the chemical combatability chart it will tell you "no data" which means they don't know. So just use hydrophobic PVDF or PTFE.

Are you speaking in regards to syringe, bottle top or capsule filters?

That's a very good question Jet. I was speaking of a membrane in either a bottle top filter or glass filtration set up.. I didn't think about a capsule filter. If that's the case me and you both know now nylon works just fine. However Even when using a capsule filter like lets just say a whatman polycap 36as vs the 36tf witch is a PTFE membrane your final throughput will be a extra 3 to 5000ml. Would you agree?


Actually well I got your attention brother let me pick your brain. Which capsule filter brand do you think has the highest throughput between a whatman polycap 36AS and a Pall Acropak 200? Or would you stay away from the acropak considering its a PES membrane?

I've ran sevral different brews of 18/2 with a pes bottle top, one brew was even 200ml, no issue. Not saying it's right but I've never had any issue.

Sounds like your just making bact water... PES should be ok. Now if you start adding solvents (like BB, EO, or Guaiacol), definitely get a better filter.

Distilled water w a little BA in it is gonna run thru the filter so fast it won't break down anyway.

Thank you. I have just decided to purchase quality hydrophilic PVDFs. Maybe some nylons every now and then. Might as well use the best.

If i did oils would I want to use hydrophobic or hydrophilic and pvdf or nylon fine ?

If you're going to be making BAC water it will work with a hydrophobic or hydrophilic membrane. Now if you're talking about filtering oil you should definitely use a hydrophobic PVDF or PTFE membrane. I'll put a link below for both PVDF and PTFE membranes.

The last one should be .22 not .45. Not great .45
