PhD Study: Males older than 40 who use Anabolic Steroids

Hi All,
My name is Evelyn and I am a PhD student at Liverpool John Moores University and I am hoping to recruit male anabolic steroid users in the UK.
The overall PhD study aims to explore males (>40 years) experiences’ of anabolic steroid use across the life course and what their healthcare and support needs are.

The research team currently has a number of published academic papers and technical reports that support the PhD.
The research is being conducted through the Public Health Institute, Faculty of Health, LJMU. It has received full LJMU Research Ethics Committee ethical approval (Ref:21/PHI/002). I can DM the Participant Information Sheet which has complete details and implications of the study.

Whilst there are no direct benefits to taking part in the study; participating in the research will provide an opportunity for you to discuss your experiences and have your healthcare and support needs voiced. This will allow for better, evidence-based responses to support older male anabolic steroid users in the UK.

The research will entail an online interview via MSTeams, lasting approximately 1hour and a time that is convenient to you. Confidentiality and anonymity is guaranteed.

If you would like to know more, or would like to participate, please drop me a DM or email me at:
E.Hearne@ljmu.ac.uk

How guys talk to guys about girls is different than how guys talk to girls.

Well, then go PM someone about her and fuck off out of the thread. You of all people ought to appreciate a researcher hoping to offer support to males over 40 with the threads you post... Your contribution to the community consists of "help me". Well, here's a researcher that wants to do that and your contribution is "you're hot". Have some respect for someone that's dedicated a career to giving something to a community that you'll only take from.

Fucking. Cringe.

I just said she was attractive WTF?
Do you blast the others for calling her unattractive? Talk about making a thread go off topic, well done!
Do you blast Millard for finding her IG?
Making a fight over nothing, fucking, cringe.

I agree.

B-but...truth be told..
Ehm..well,you know...
Let's just say that she is good looking!

Keep the research going!

Sigh. Surely, you are not suggesting any type of equivalency between my posting a tweet about her study with your and others' posting about her physical appearance?!

I came across her tweet last week. Around the same time, Dr. Scally came across a post she made in another PIED forum and invited her to share her research on MESO.

Speaking for myself, I was thrilled to see an academic researcher taking interest in AAS-using bodybuilders, a marginalized minority whose health has largely been dismissed or ignored by professionals for so long.

So when I see @MissBetty on MESO, I see someone who has taken a professional interest in furthering evidence-based research to improve healthcare (harm reduction) for us. I suspect @Michael Scally MD and @Eman feel similarly.

It is disappointing that any members see her arrival as an opportunity to reduce her to her looks.

You probably didn't intend any harm but I hope you can see how it opened the door to diminish and insult.

MESO sometimes comes across as a bunch of unappreciative assholes when professionals reach out to us to understand our health issues and concerns. It often makes me wonder why they bother.

I am sorry if you feel undeservedly singled out. My comments apply to everyone.

At least one other female researcher has been presented with a more misogynistic reception in the past, so I don't have much tolerance for behavior that goes down that slippery slope.

Yes and I agree but at the same time we all need to stop being so freaking sensitive in this era. Everyone is offended by everything, we can no longer say merry Christmas or say pronouns. I think it’s getting very out of control and I don’t give a crap what people think about me.

We are on a 99% male board, the the majority of which are using or abusing illegal drugs and yet I get attacked because I said someone was hot? I’m so sorry I offended anyone, it was a tongue in cheek joke for the most part but the fact that comment offended people really disgusts me.

I still don't think you get it.

It's not about you.

It's not about what people think of you. That's great that you don't give a crap about what people think you.

However, I DO hope that you give a crap about the forum's goal of promoting harm reduction for AAS users. It's the primary reason for its existence.

The increasing number of research and medical professionals that are reaching out to the community is generally a good thing when it comes to harm reduction.

Please give a little more consideration to this.

Incest aside ... I am very happy to see a legit academic doing this kind of work. Good on ya, Doc. If I was still in UK I would love to contribute.

Of course, reading thru the forum she probably already thinks AASs have fried our brains.

We're not really crazy, Doc. We're just BSing mostly.

Well ... except TrenedOutLunatic. I'm pretty sure he really is crazy. And I am too. But the rest are actually ok.

Again ... thanks Doc! Good luck with the study.

Agree, and I’ll leave it at that.
