It is not wrong to enjoy it if you have been drinking, and are driving around spotlighting. They are poisoning them around here because they are messing up the ground water. And the damn animal rights people are making a big deal over it. I don't see how it is that big of a deal, there are so many of them.

Oh I use a 270, 30-06, and a 223.

When I went last year it was a a lot of fun. I bought a new 22-250 Rem-BDL to take with me. We shot atleast 30 per huge town before they got a little wise so we would just turn around and shoot down the otherside of the hill or take a short ride over another ridge to another town. Cool thing was on our way back there were a bunch of coyotes eating the dead dogs so we got to shoot them up too.
Prarie dogs carry plagues and diseases, mites and fleas.If you were to walk through a PD town you might end up dying shortly thereafter as well from something on the flea or the mites or catch something.
Anyways, don't knock it till you try it.
It is done for population control.

hmmm.....now a post like this is what makes hunters look bad my friend. i enjoy the hooch as much as anyone, but drinking and firearms...well i dont really agree with that one.

this is not intended as a flame to the people who disagree or cant understand prairie dog hunting. i've never done it myself, but would love to try. from what i understand its necessary. ask some ranchers who need the land to graze cattle or horses. these things are their worst nightmare(maybe a slight exaggeration, but the dogs are bad). they dig up the land and feed on the grass. now, here comes dumb ol' bessy the cow and steps in the whole and breaks her leg. guess what...the cow gets a bullet in the head. to the ranchers, these dogs are the same as rats are to city folk....especially in NY.

as people from the city, we need to realize that life is different in the open country...montana, wyoming, idaho...etc, etc. most people wouldnt have a problem with killing rats. as stated above, to ranchers and farmers these doggies are rats. so maybe we shouldnt be so quick to judge others.

and even though i assume the remark about killing stupid humans was made in jest, just goes to show where we are heading as a society. even though i really do agree that some gene pool cleaning is needed....and bad

Bro, yes I am from the city and I completely understand if it's necessary to exterminate these creatures, but to blow the shit out of them and get pleasure from it is sadistic!

well the blowing up part comes from high velocity bullets hitting a creature that, like humans, is made up mostly of water. small object(bullet) going very fast(3000-3500 feet per second) hitting fleshy object(critter) equals explosion like results . as far as getting pleasure from it, well i'd get pleasure from taking out a few NYC rats. but, as always, to each his own. i'm not condemning anyone for their feelings or their views. but i find that alot of times emotions take the place of open-mindedness and common sense...and i'm NOT talking about you in particular. just a general statement.

personally, it'd put a smile on my face if i could hit a small rat at over 100yds. but again, to each his own.

Pred......nice footage. I am going to OK in May and then to the Lower Brule reservation in SD in June to shoot the little varmints. People that have a problem with us shooting them should talk to the Native Americans....they hate them, and they love nature. They kill all the cattle grass, cause cattle to break their legs, and generally cause an extreme nuisance.

I have a Bushmaster AR-15 Varmit special with Smit and Bender 8x24 scope using Mil dot. I also have a Savage .308 with a Horace Vision scope. Great for those 1,000 yard shots.

Kemo, I'd love to have a semi auto like your AR15. Do you like that mil dot? How does that weapon do on paper? 3/4" at 100yrds? I shoot mostly single shots but I'd like to chase em down with an auto for a change. I prefer high mag scopes for doggin like 6-20 x 50mm.

3/4 at 100yrds"??? Come on man....you are doing too much clen. jk At 200yrds I usually put em within a dime if I am using hand loads. I like the mil dot....I have used the grid as well, but I am not really into using a palm pilot to dial in, with the semi I shoot, watch the dust jump, adjust, and blam.... The .308 bolt I need to take a little more time and screw with windage, elavation, etc.

You would pretty much have to shoot one round, put another single onto the match grade carrier and repeat as needed. lol. That's great shooting too being able to group that small at 200 with a fixed 8x. 24mm objective lens too. I am impressed. That's a one holer at 100 right? I'll shoot with you any day bro.

Cronk.......totally factory gun with me holding it off handed at 20mph cross wind..... HA..... Yes, this is with ammo that has been specially loaded, preped, etc. My gun has been worked over a bit as well.....I use a nice set of bench bags that I filled with very fine grain sand. Also, keep in mind this is on a pretty calm day.

When I am out plinking dogs I usually just use hand loads, so I am pretty accurate out to about 600yrds. For 1,000 yards I need the .308
