Profiling- let's get real

As for regular criminal profiling....I say go for it! If you have nothing to hide then why care? (I know...big brother style thought there) Typically, who commits white-collar crimes? Whites. So, if someone is suspected of embezzlement from a Fortune 500 company I have no problem if the cops single out all of the white board members before considering the other races.

At the same time I also have no problem with the following scenario. A man in an all black outfit, to include gloves, motorcycle helmet with tinted visor and a voice modifer (to disguise the voice as I have found that most people of a particular race tend to speak similarly...I can almost always tell when I'm speaking to a black or hispanic on the phone even if they have no accent) robs a convenience store and is seen entering a bar. No one leaves the bar. Cops go into the bar and they first consider the blacks as suspects instead of the Hispanics or whites. Next, if none of the blacks pan out (or if there are none) they then concentrate on the Hispanics. No problems with this at all. Why? Because certain types of people are associated with certain types of crime. Are they exclusive? NO! But why waste time in the beginning (and most crucial time) of an investigation with 100% of the possible suspects when you can increase your chances of catching the crook several times over if you just concentrate on 86% of the suspects who tend to commit that type of crime 95% of the time? It just makes sense.

I agree with profiling. It makes more sense than randomization. Put yourself in the shoes of whoever is doing the profiling. How else would you get the job done? To be honest if your trying to portray an image than you should expect to be treated a certain way. Come on why do we wear what we wear? To be seen in a way we choose. Guess what? Not everyone sees us the way we would like them! If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it just might be a duck!
