Protein Intake

Whats everyone's daily protein intake? I try and get in 400g a day. Whether it's too much or not I like to be safe, especially on cycle.

Anything above 300-350 seems to work for me. 212lbs. to much won't hurt imo. 1.5-2g per lbs seems good. Whatever works for u.

Was growing just fine at 215lbs eating around 200g, sometimes over, sometimes a little under. Healing a FX at the moment so I'm still eating the same amount just to 'help' the healing process.

I don't pay attention to it really. If you eat meat and make shakes using whey or milk then you are probably getting enough protein to grow.

Personally I think everyone takes a bit much on the ol protein 1g per LB is plenty in my expeirence and readings yes maybe slightly more on cycle. I weigh 187 and go for 180g usually more for on cycle bulking but I've never tried to go above 220g sometimes I do but never trying to.

I agree. I don't think I ever eat over 200 of protein, unless I'm at a Chinese buffet.
If I were to guess, I'm probably closer to 150g-180g on average.
Consuming too much protein can make your body very acidic and put you in a cancerous environment

Grams per day is like asking how many calories to eat. Completely varies from person to person based on size, goals, diet and activity level. I am 280 lbs... when I am doing high volume training I need 450 grams plus to grow on cycle with heightened protein synthesis. 300 will hold me off cycle. If I take in a lot of carbs I can get by on less because no protein, or very little, is used for energy. Less carbs, more protein. Now that I am doing lower volume powerlifting I can increase strength perfectly fine on cycle at 250... I am sure 200 grams is fine off cycle for strength gains.

If you are trying to gain mass the answer for the perfect amount of protein on cycle is "more"

Drink plenty of water and eat till you puke... then drink a shake.

I like 1.5 per pound, or more. A lot of that comes down to eating preference though, most can grow fine on 1g/lb, assuming adequate carbs and total calories are there.

It's easier for me to put down a very large surplus when I'm leaning heavy on protein, as starchy carbs bloat the fuck out of me and leave me full. I'm a guy who can put down a 30oz steak with some veggies, and finish my wife's plate for her. Give me a baked potato with that, I'm tapping out at 12oz of meat, grabbing an alka seltzer, and heading to the couch for a nap.

Depends on what your goals are. If you are bulking and taking in a ton of protein you will start burning calories, I do about 250 on a bulk and about 350 on a cut.

There was a study done and many use it to show that 1g/lb bw is adequate. Only one major issue with that study...
The participants in the study weren't using AAS!

Like brutus I'm 280. Well was. Currently shrinking :)
2g/lb bw puts me at 560g of protein per day:eek:
AM I going to do that? Hell no

I've tried all the combinations. All of em. What have I found 400 - 450g a day is what I prefer on cycle. It's based on nothing just like every one else's opinion.

Off cycle, 300g tops. Again based on the study showing participants not using AAS which is basically what I am on a low cruise is to be determined adequate.

Now the better question,
How much protein is being UTILIZED ;)

Ok well there was a study done on test e like 500-600mg and the participants gained 18 pounds of muscle in like 20 weeks on about 1g/kg bw. There are some benefits to higher protein, but extra muscle isn't one of them. Bodybuilders seem to be the only ones who keep this myth up. Most coaches have their athletes on what is proven to be what's needed. Over 1g/lb some is defiantly being converted to glucose.

I suggest reading that study over again. They did not gain 18lbs of muscle in 20wks. Fat free mass is not the same thing as skeletal muscle tissue.

I should also add protein intake was standardized at 1.2g/kg BW not 1g/kg
Still the point is valid. Most of the muscle you have is just water and fluid. I'm not sure on how much is actually tissue but you sure aren't using even close to an extra 100g of protein to synthesize tissue. Pretty sure 1 pound of muscle weight is only like 220g of protein. Not sure on those numbers but you get the point. Don't get me wrong higher protein is good to supress appetite but after a point it can mess with digestion and you would prob be better off eating carbs instead of having your body convert the protein to carbs.

I'm more interested in how/why the extra protein consumed turns into glucose? That's a new one on me.

I get your point I was just correcting the part about how much muscle was gained in that study. They measured fat free mass not muscle mass.

While I do agree with you that excessive amounts of protein aren't needed to build muscle, 1g/lb is sufficient, going over this isn't harmful either. 2g/lb of protein has been safe and it's theorized that there maybe benefits that haven't been measured or discovered yet.
