Just recently fell in love with this bad boy. It's tough for me to do strict presses with any real weight so these allow me to get some overhead work in and not destroy my shoulders. Anyone like this beast?

That would be cool having access to a strongman log. The neutral grip is more comfortable and better for your shoulders.Solid.
I do behind the neck push & with full squat, jerk like Doc is talking, and I like using the strongman log with the neutral grips to mix it up.
I've read that the push press helps your bench more than a strict press, can't remember where though
I like to throw in full squat press in the lighter weight warm up range to get the blood pumping, knock out my strict presses, then sometimes finish with heavy push press to "cheat" those last few out.Push press is the king of upper body movements imo, even though it does use your legs also.
Do you mean that you injured it by doing push presses? Or was the bicep injury unrelated to doing them?I used to do them and they worked great, the issue I eventually had was I injured my bicep tendons and when I went back to them it was like my tendons became shock absorbers and they kill my joints now. I do miss the days where I didn't have to worry about shit like this!!
unrelated. The first one I injured carrying a granite countertop into a house, second one was injured flipping a 1,000 lb tire. Both biceps had partial ruptures, from that point on the push press was out, everytime the shock of the barbell coming back down killed them. One of those deals where I figure better safe than sorryDo you mean that you injured it by doing push presses? Or was the bicep injury unrelated to doing them?

I'm currently doing strict press three times a week and tonight is my heavy night on them, so I'll throw about 25lbs more than I was going to do and see what happens.
I believe it was an interview with glen pendlay
I've read that the push press helps your bench more than a strict press, can't remember where though
I read that recently too. I think it might have been mark rippetoe that said it. Makes perfect sense though since you're locking out more weight with the triceps.
I believe it was an interview with glen pendlay
My gym has those plastic logs (VIPR)...20lb and 40lbs and they are pretty cool to use. That would be cool having access to a strongman log. The neutral grip is more comfortable and better for your shoulders.
