Well, at least it wasn’t expensive, and you knew what you were buying and from whom. I wonder if, let’s say, you don’t want to throw it away and you’re not sure how to filter it into a new vial, would regular 5-micron filtered needles help ensure safety when drawing this “pure” oil?

Best practice, for all UGL, would be to draw into a 10ml syringe, attach .22um PTFE filter, inject into an "ultra spec" vial.

Then insert a 5um filtered spike to draw without the possibility of coring particles,

However, any one or a combination of those steps someone is willing to do is better than nothing.

Hell, it's probably a wise practice with pharma injectables too based on what I've seen in FDA reports.

Overall, the way I see it - it is a trade off & you kinda get what you pay for.

I love a good bargain; I was probably a banker in a past life. Even so, having an oil one injects into their body compared to Mcdonalds by the company manager was enough to turn me off from purchasing them.

It's certainly much less necessary than UGL, but it wouldn't be unreasonable to .22um filter pharma injectables into a sterile vial, then use a spike:



Would I? I'd be ok with just the spike, probably. Coring particles are a hazard even if the injectables are perfectly made pharma products.

I guess I should start filtering, I'm probably full of little bits of rubber stoppers. I've been drawing and injecting with a 25 since that's what I have on hand, but I generally always draw with a 20.

Even an unfiltered spike will protect you from most coring particles (inserting the spike can create some). A vented spike speeds up drawing, and since you're attaching to the vial with the luer lock and no needle, it's like drawing through a firehose.

Also eliminates the need for a separate draw needle, and if you normally use one needle for both, it keeps the needle sharper. You can feel the difference.

My knowledge is somewhat amateur on this topic, but what I know so far is that for the average user buying 10ml UGL finished oils a PTFE 0.22 13mm Is likely the best choice.

There are marginally better filters but at astronomical prices.

For Petides:

Hydrophilic PES syringe filters with single or double-layer membrane. Pore sizes of 0.2μm. Diameter of 13mm/25mm/33mm with Luer lock. Sterile individually packed. Used for sterile filtration of protein solutions, cell culture media, and buffers.

The best in this category use the "Supor" PES membrane, like Pall Filters, or B Braun. They're much much more expensive ($4-5 each). I buy them at huge discounts from science gear surplus sellers (I live near a "research triangle"). Pall is the standard for compounding pharmacies. But Cobetter is 95% as good, and superior (less protein adhesion, faster flow) to many name brands, never mind generics.

That disclaimer is referring to crashed gear when it crashes the oil is not clear and has small crystals in it. To not inject that due to low temperatures causing it to crash. It is Not talking about the filth in this ugl's vials like in op or if you use a big needle that pierces a hole in the stopper .. Thats what the pharma disclaimer means .
