I am fucked up at the moment because of the situation my family has put me in.
I fell in love with a black women....she's fantastic! Havard educated, Rhoads scholor, chief surgeon.....incredibily successful women. But more importantly she is a beutiful person! She was raised in Canada where racism is not as severe....and came to the states for school.

Well here is the fucked up shit....went home for easter and sat my parents down and told them of my feelings for this women. My mom cried and went crazy.....I mean really crazy! She said its the same to hear as if I came home and said I was gay! What the fuck????? I knew my parents had some prejudice, but to hate someone that bad (without even meeting them shocked me!) Is this society still that backwards......It hurt me so bad to tell my girl the situation this weekend, embarressing to say the least! My mom said that "we" probably wouldn't be accepted in the family....shunned. The sad part is that I have always had a good relationship with my parents. I am im my thirties for gods sake....

What do you guys think......any insight would really help!

this is a tough call bro. i wish there was an easy cut and dry answer... anyway, whatever you decide, remember, you're an adult and the choice is yours, and only yours, to make. don't try to get into your parents' head and it would be useless to try to change a years-old mindset.

if you dig this lady, then date her and just realize that you won't be able to share this relationship with your folks. but that's ok because there are plenty of things that we can't share with our folks. the problem, as i see it, would only arise in the event that the two of you decide to marry but, since that hasn't happened yet, it is a moot point, isn't it? so don't fret and just cross that bridge if and when you come to it. no need to get into a war with your family over something that may very well be a transient thing.

Manuel, sounds like this chick is quite impressive. Whether shes a Rhodes scholar or crack whore, I think your parents are definitely in the wrong here. They should accept/judge her based on her as an individual and not as a color.

How do you deal with this situation? Thats a tough one. If you are really serious about her and think it may lead to marriage, then it could end up severing your relationship with your parents. But as the Bible says, when you get married, you split from your parents and become one with your wife.

In the mean time, I would say to not mention your gf to your parents and mention nothing your parents say to your gf.

definately a tough call. as a general rule, i dont like telling people what they should do in these types of situations. but, i can tell you what i would do.

following bobs and chips advice, i'd date her and not bring up her name when around the folks. it wouldnt be worth causing all those problems at home for someone i'm dating. if i would marry her, well then it would be up to my folks to take the next step. if they wouldnt want to be part of it, i would still call and visit the folks, but only for a certain amount of time. if after a certain amount of time they dont accept my marriage, well then...its on their head not mine. i tried and tried, but their stubborness/closed mindedness ruined our relationship.

i always give it an honest try. several honest good-willed tries. but after a while if things dont change, i move on knowing i did what i could do.

True, their views may be outdated and wrong to impose on you but those are their views and you cannot change that. They are also your family and you cannot change that either. I know what your going through bro, I am 100% pure white Italian, my sister married a black guy, this was 11 years ago, well it was hard to get used to but things come around, she has children with this man, my opion is , if you love each other and you can take care of each other, then fuck the parents, they will come around sooner or later, best thing to do is bring her by the parents house without them knowing then introduce her to them, if they say get the fuck out of my house now, fine then leave, but I bet you 500grams of test that they will welcome her with open arms, we did with my sister. now we make joks with him saying where are the chimp kids, LOL and he is the one that made that one up, just enjoy your time with your lady dont worrie about what others say, just jelious is all

Its a tough situation to be sure and personally I could not marry outside my race allthough I have dated black,asian you name it but I like to keep my blood line pure and thats just my personal choice and Im not saying its wrong for some, however as Rob said this is going to destroy a family and you better be sure it will last not mention Im sure her brothers and cousins are gonna love your white,asian (not really sure) ass.

Joe and I pretty much agree...up till the part where he suggests that he would still visit his parents. IMO, if my parents dont/cant accept who I choose to marry simply for her color, then Id cut off the parents. Fuck them. Its not the 1840s anymore!

In this world of policital correctness, I am not going to take the highroad. Just because she is disapointed with you marrying outside your race, so what? I'm proud to be white, and that statement alone if said by other races would be considered funny. However because I am white and saying it, it makes it controversial.

I agree with your parents. Relationships are difficult enough without people judging you for dating outside your race. Black man hate it when black women date white guys. as do white guys when they date blacks. If a child of mine dated outside of our race I would let them know of my disapointment.
