Restoring natural thyroid function after stopping T4

Been on HGH for some months now, and for the past few months been feeling lethargic and tired during the day regardless of how much sleep i get the night before.

A bit of research shows HGH can increase the conversion of T4 to T3 and thus a 100mcg daily supplementation is advised.

So i got some blood work done and sure enough my T4 was low.

I now have some T4 to hand which i would like to start taking.

I know with T3 (which i am not running) can take a few weeks after stopping until your natural thyroid function returns to baseline.

However with taking 100mcg of T4 per day, will this fully shut down my TSH like would happen with T3 and thus crash thyroid function once i stop using it when I plan to stop the HGH use?

T4 has a 5 day half life, and the body does not necessarily convert all free flowing T4 to T3 - In this instance, if i stop taking T4 "cold turkey" will the "crash" be much milder vs the same but with T3 supplementation?

Cheers!

Takes a couple of weeks max (atleast it did for me. It will be fine. Might be tired for the first couple of days. I was on 150mcg a day too

I've been on t3 for nearly 8 months now or longer at 50mcg ED. When I get off, I plan to run Clen to deal with any lethargy that may come with it. I will probably stop before winter.

Thyroid works off of a negative feedback loop, so if you take some and its not enough for replacement, it could make issues worse, for some people, an your tsh could climb

For others with high tsh, taking some may lower there tsh and help them get into range, it varies and is a complacated hormone.

Takes about 5 to 6 weeks to get t4 fully intonyoir cells to see a difference and to see proper lab numbers.

No one will be able to tell you if 100mcg will shut down yoir tsh or Thyroid fully.

You would have an easier time coming of t3 then t4, t3 i always recommend roughly 6.25 mcg drops every 3 to 4 days . With t4 i would recommend 12.5mcg you can do 25mcg drops as well every 2 weeks, But stopping the full amount at once in my opinion woukd not be wise depending on your thyroid and how well its working.

Im also hypothyroidism , so im effected alot harder then others, some can come clean off and be fine just a bit tired for a week. I prefer to lower slow to allow your own Thyroid to start producing the proper amounts at a more stable rate.

If your going to stsrt taking t4, my best advise do labs in 5 weeks. Check ft4 ft3 tsh. Tweak your dosage from there. Last thing youbwant is to not do labs and 2 months down the rd your tsh is 20 and your very ill

That being said, its possible to recover your thyroid function without t4 as well, depending on what your labs were, its not always recommend to jump on thyroid meds, theres alot of contributing factors for a low ft4 , and alot of times a high rt3 is a factor, so fix the issues causing the low ft4 and you wont need thyroid meds.

The build up of t4 is far greater in the body then t3, t3 is quick, labs can be taken every 5 days with increses with t3, this is why you can drop t3 quicker without much issues, t4 is the storage hormone that can cause you the grief.
T3 also surpress your tsh very quickly, where as t4 is a much more slow approach.

Were you using just T4 in this instance and did you use a blood test to confirm recovery after the he 2-3 weeks?

Thanks for this informative reply, I will be getting TSH FT3 and FT4 checked every 3/4 weeks to see how i am getting on, so i wont be going in blind. To be clear, my goal is to have my thyroid running in range and NOT above or below.

A few questions following your reply:

1. So can it be that using just T4 (at a starting dose of 100mcg for me) can work to top up circulating T4 without fully shutting down your own thyroid (TSH)? or is it after a prolonged time on T4 its inevitable TSH will drop?

2. So you suggest that with running only T4 that i slowly drop the dose week by week by around 12.5mcg each week rather than just stopping instantly without a taper? also with the tapered approach, would this in theory allow the natural thyroid TSH to slowly return to normal as the pituitary detects lower levels of T4 and thus kick in to top T4 up?

3. when i run labs to check FT3, FT4 and TSH while running 100mcg, what should i be hoping to see to give me the thumbs up that the dose i am using is correct? I am going to assume for FT3 and FT4 we want them to both be in the natural ranges, and each not to high or low. But what should i expect to see for TSH numbers if my T4 supplementation is being dosed correctly)?

4. Bit of an off-topic personal question but, Have you ever tapered off T4 given that you are hypo and if so, what would have been the reason for this?

Everyone just complicates everything unnecessary...

Just stop taking it, half life is 5-7 days, so after 5 weeks it's your low point do bloodwork see were you're at, then after 4-5 weeks see again, then give it more time and retest again if it was healthy before chances are it will recover.

Everyone else, are you fucking stupid I wonder sometimes, fucking with your thyroid most of you have no idea wtf you're doing in the first and have no business in using thyroid meds. Most of you here are non competitors and not even on the level of leanness to consider sacrificing your thyroid function for your little goals. This comes from someone who actually needs t4 to have properly functioning thyroid, not because of imaginary goals that otherwise could have been achieved by eating less and moving ass more!

Have a nice day and stay healthy everyone.

I'm hypo. 50mg puts my tsh at 1.0 usually. I have gotten slower number closer to 4.0 if I get lazy and take it with my coffee.

I should mention. @Type-IIx has talked about supplementing t4 wasn't necessary. my labs showed the same thing. Didn't increase conversion. I feel the same on it as I do off of it
Yes i have seen this also from my research from several other forum posts... Truth is, i have been experiencing really bad lethargy when running HGH. Labs for thyroid showed that i am a little hypo.

I have also monitored blood glucose via finger prick and also blood test including HbA1c which has been perfect, so its not related to this.

i know its been only 3 days but since starting, i do feel lethargy and tiredness has tapered a little.

I guess its a matter of live and learn, see how i get on, if no better ill recover and again run labs to ensure i have recovered as well as drop HGH.
