Not sure if any of you guys are or were ever in to rock climbing but this is an awesome documentary of the progression of rock climbing at Yosemite National Park. I honestly just seen this myself. Even if your not into the sport this is an entertaining documentary.
VALLEY UPRISING is the name of it

Such a misleading documentary though and everyone is so incredibly arrogant in it. They were not the first free solo climbers and they were about 10 years behind in climbing style and skill to anyone in Europe. They were the best America had to offer but until the 90s they were way behind in skill because it doesn't they lived in a little bubble. Now Yosemite is a fricken tourist attraction and any serious climber doesn't bother with it, only glory climbers go there to say they did El Capitan or the dome.

But ya half decent documentary just wish they didn't portray it the way they did. If you are interested in outdoors stuff, Higher, Further and Deeper are all sweet backcountry boarding ones.

Maybe, but I used to climb and I would never free climb any of those routes. I honestly wouldn't have climbed just about any of the routes even assisted. Those dudes were straight gangster I can't come close to their feats so as far as I'm concerned they can be as arrogant as they want.
I love to board especially backcountry. I couldn't go for years due to spine injuries and I didn't go this year because I didn't want to risk jacking it up again. If I can stay injury free I'm definitely getting back on it next year. I will have to check those videos out. I might have seen them though I used to watch a lot of snowboarding videos when I had the itch and the season was near.

Ain't saying they weren't good cause they were/are but they acted like they invented everything. As for the free solo climbing fuck that every free soloer eventually dies from a misstep or bad hold and I'm not doing sports to die. I'll trad and sport climb and I do mountaineer a fair bit but I have no interest in being a climbing bum or free solo. Bouldering is huge where I live and I do that a fair bit when weather dictates or go indoor.

Yeah bouldering was pretty much the extent of my free climbing. I pushed it a few times but it was a joke compared to those guys. If I wanted to seriously get back into it I would have to stop lifting a few months and only run and climb. My grip strength is shit now.

Just watching that video when he does those dyno's gives me butterflies in my stomach. Some people are just on another level and he was one of them. Even doing dyno's bouldering you get that uneasy feeling in mid air reaching for that next hold. I don't know what the fuck he was thinking using that rope that had been sitting up there that long in the wind and weather. Dude survived all that crazy shit and goes out doing some dumb shit like that. It's a shame

Trad climbing is where its at. Fuck free solo, I want to live a few more years.
Using bolts is kind of messed up in some places. It's like defacing the mountain. I never did any crazy free climbs but there is no feeling like it. It's hard to free climb that far anyway because your body gets so stressed from all the chemicals and hormones flooding your body. I don't know how those guys overcame that shit. That's why I say they were just on another level. Try just bouldering free solo, you will still get that feeling.
