So this is what he had to say at the hearings today:
"These events occurred on my watch. As Secretary of Defence, I am accountable for them. I take full responsibility."
Ok, so if you are accountable for your actions and take responsibility for them, then you accept a penalty when your actions turn sour. Wouldn't that mean he would resign? On no says he, I'm too important to the country to step down.
These acts have justifiably infuriated Iraqis and and you can bet dollars to donuts that American servicemen will pay for this problem with their lives. Any self-respecting public servant would take the hit and cash in his chips. But not tough-talking, God-fearing Rumsfeld. Basically what he's saying is that on one hand he accepts that he's accountable and responsible, but on the other he refuses to be held accountable and responsible. What a fucking hypocrite.
Is anybody out there fed up yet with these born-again, NeCon, upper-class superwarriors who send out young people to be slaughtered in the armpits of the earth for no apparent reason; and who insist that the most poor and vulnerable people in America are "accountable and responsible" for their own poverty - yet whom refuse to to pay the price when they themselves fuck up.
These are the same cowards like George W. Bush, who dodged the war in Vietnam and then paraded around thirty years later wearing the same flight jacket as guys who replaced him in the front lines and died as a result. Or mealy-mouthed, psalm-singing swine like Herr Von Rumsfeld, who quotes the bible at every turn and ignores all of its major injunctions in his public acts.
