Well if you want a plain and simple answer: It can and will be used against you (or your source) in an effort to convict you.
Pretty straight forward? Maybe its not much, but do you want to hand this over to a prosecutor on behalf of your source?
Mitigate all risk no matter how small.
Anyone who thinks these things aren't that big of a deal are fooling themselves. Because it's just one more nail in the coffin for someone breaking the law.
