[SIZE=-1]A 17-YEAR-OLD boy has died after taking what are believed to be anabolic steroids. [/SIZE]
[SIZE=-1]Matthew Dear died at Southend Hospital at 8am today. He had been in hospital since last Monday where he was being treated in the critical care unit. [/SIZE]
[SIZE=-1]Essex Police spokeswoman Heather Watts said: It is believed his condition may be due to him taking what are believed to be anabolic steroids. [/SIZE]
[SIZE=-1]Taking the drug can increase the build up of muscle but excessive doses can cause liver problems and high blood pressure. [/SIZE]
[SIZE=-1]It is a Class C drug which is available by prescription only. [/SIZE]
[SIZE=-1]The tablets have been sent to Guys Hospital in London for testing. [/SIZE]
[SIZE=-1]A post mortem examination wil be carried out tomorrow. [/SIZE]
