sterilising filter with 1ml iso?

if the filters i buy are not sterilised can i run iso through the filter to sterilise it before filtering homebrew? thanks

Brief exposure to isopropyl alcohol doesn't sterilize: for example, wiping the skin briefly with an alcohol pad by no means sterilizes the surface. It just cleans away a large percentage of the bacteria. Perhaps a few get killed (I don't know) but certainly not all. That is an illustration only.

I do expect that sustained contact with IPA should eventually be sterlizing to bacteria except those that are in spore form, and realistically unless the handling of the filters has been just appalling, there should be no concern there.

So you could try running IPA through them with a syringe (90% would be better than 70%) and let sit for an hour with the IPA still in them, before pushing the IPA out with air. I would be satisfied with that myself.

Btw, if having any concern about residual IPA or how to dry the filters other than leaving them out in the air, which could expose them to more bacteria: IPA in small amounts is absolutely harmless by injection. If reusing a vial, I routinely wash out the old oil multiple times with IPA rinses, drain the remaining IPA, and don't worry at all about remaining IPA becoming part of the next preparation. It really is harmless. For example if a company wanted to use it as part of a pharmaceutical excipient, there would be no approval problem. It's far friendlier than say benzyl alcohol! :)
