Sterilize Oil In Oven before brew

I was reading. Some people place their oil in a oven for an hour at 250 to sterilize before brewing. Does anyone do this ? Is it needed?

Why the hell wouldn't you buy sterile oil to begin with? It's like $50 a gallon.

To sterilize it, they filter it. Same as what you do after mixing the raws in.

The raws aren’t sterile so there’s no real benefit for have sterile oil to begin with.

You could use gallon jugs of Grape seed oil from Costco. That’d be fine. Or you can spring for the USP grade grape seed oil. USP doesn’t mean sterile, just high quality/high purity.

For safety after I cap my vials I always heat them to 145F for 35 minutes. Leaving a half inch air gap between the oil and rubber stopper so I don't need a vent needle due to stopper bulge from pressure.

I will never completely trust filters on their own, some will, but having done thousands of gram stains over the years I can't bring myself to trust anything other than heat as that extra layer of security so I don't become one of those idiots that has to have a pound of meat carved out because of an abscess.

With the amount of steroid shots done by the average gym rat across the US year or year. if the filter wasn't substantially enough to prevent infections. would see a much higher rate of infections among all levels of steroid users.

Temps like that don't ruin the gear?

No. Its sufficient to have it all go through the filter at the end. Man it would be awesome if we had some lab people in these forums to give us the crack on what the best work practices are. Cause they do sell medical grade gso..
I always just put the brew through the filter. I wash my glassware before hand and have good isolation practices but thats it

Medical grade (USP) is nothing special. It’s more “pure” which means they filtered it. Just like it gets filtered after you brew. Feel free to pay extra for it but that’s a waste of money.

Quit correcting my posts this is a viable option and I made it clear there arent many benifits and I dont do it personally. Its really annoying

How did that correct your post? I was clarifying for the other guy that asked. Just because you get quoted doesn’t mean I’m arguing at all with what you said.
