stopping T4 after years of use

Hi

I´ve started T4 abt 6 years ago when starting GH, after reading they could be match well, among other benefits. Never dared to stop after that, although I remember reading even after a long T4 use one's thyroid would restart producing hormones even after a long intake,
My wife had thyroid cancer around that time, had her thyroid completely removed, and once to do a test she had to stop using T4 for a few weeks, and after abt 3 weeks her mood and energy turned disastrous, she wanted to die. She had no thyroid gland to pick up production obviously but that left me a bit afraidf.
51 y o here, grappling/wrestling and lifting weights atm, around 240lbs, on 250mg test long term, I stopped using GH over a year ago already. Struggling to keep up with the kids I train with, so afraid to lose energy and put on much fat
I´m on 125mcg of T4, it´s easy to get here otc, but I wouldn´t mind removing some meds from my menu ( I m on a 2 months proviron cycle, and often need to take Asin (now E3D) and sometimes Caber coz my E2 and Prl easily go North and leave me with ED.
Last bloods came at

Free T4 1.6 (range 0.7 to 1.8)
hTSH 2.2 (range 0.4 to 4.2)

Wondering if some of you have experience to share on the topic,
thanks in advance for all info

You’re correct that your thyroid will go back to what it would be without taking exogenous thyroid hormone. Your TSH and FT4 are pretty good now though so I don’t think it’s hurting you by being on it.

You could come off and get retested and see if you feel any differently before deciding to go back on or not.

Thanks all for your replies, reading about this more, it looks likely that production will restart but not sure at all it will be at a good level. Need to check if I find a blood test from before I started T4 to see what the baseline was.
I might taper off than stop T4 during summer holidays see how I feel so I don´t get hit over the head when training is busy
