One minute this UGL is "g2g", the next they are the devil.
This powder source is "g2g" and next it's not.
(OK, I have said "g2g" twice and never again)
Let me preface all of this by saying - I was just a guy - with a chemical education and my friends were getting UGL shit via mail. Between me getting tired of them bitching about it - and them asking me - and me wanting my friends to be healthy... I've embarked on producing what THEY need for LOCAL use.
Want to call it/me a "UGL" ok.
That said. what's the real state of UGL's and why.
This is only my perspective, but my past gives me a good insight.
First, we of course know that this is all illegal, and that right there is one of the issues as the customers really have no recourse and in most cases really don't know who they are dealing with.
We start at the "powder" - does your UGL test the powder?
Do they first do a quick melting point test and then submit the batch of powder for lab testing?
If the powder isn't perfect, do they have procedures to either ameliorate the contamination or return the powder?
A vet here, whom I respect and thank very much, gave me a lead on a powder source that was "vetted" (so much better than "g2g") and I ordered some Test Enanthate powder.
It melted at the right point, but it didn't SOLIDIFY - becoming a viscous clear fluid.
I sent a sample out for lab testing and am still waiting for those results, but while waiting I wanted to know "WHAT" and "WHY".
I tried the simplest test. Wash the powder in distilled water and let it dry.
Voila, powder that melts at the right temperature AND solidifies to an white/off-white waxy solid.
The impurity was water soluble, and my bet is on heptanoic acid or some derivative thereof which formed a eutectic with the Test Enanthate.
Depending on the first analysis, I will either clean the powder and send a second sample for analysis - or return the powder. If the source won't do the right thing I will OUT them on every board known to man kind.
(In other words - I'll put on THE HAT)
This problem seems to be twofold:
1) Materials
2) Procedures
The self-imposed radical secrecy surrounding powder sources doesn't help #1. If people and UGLs had multiple sources - the bad ones would fade away in favor of the better vetted sources.
Onto the questions you should ask of yourself and your choice of lab.
Is your choice of UGL doing an continuous check on it's source materials?
Do they compensate the dosing based on analysis?
Are the rest of their materials USP/NF or AR grade?
(Sorry - supermarket oil doesn't cut it)
Do they even know why they are using BA and BB?
Do they know of the other options such as chlorobutanol?
Are they using aseptic procedure and sterilizing everything with heat and time in either dry ovens or autoclaves? Not "chemical" sterilization or "baking fluids", but actual good old
Do they use 0.2 ?m membrane filters to purify the vial-ready mixed oils?
If they use a pipette to fill (suboptimal as it's nearly impossible to keep the makeup air sterile) is it kept sterile?
If they use a pump like a Dispensette, is it sterilized before use and is the makeup air also sterilized? (the pressure-equalization air can be filtered using one of those small whatman filters and an adapter)
Are the vials stoppered IMMEDIATELY after filling? In a sterile manner?
Are the crimps solid and the vials/stoppers/crimp rings of adequate quality
These are the questions that need to be asked.
It would be optimal if the lab submitted random samples of finished product for biological contamination testing as well. Not sure if that's even possible on a large scale, though.
Can your UGL lie about these things? Sure.
But enough people asking enough questions,,, and...
The truth shall set you free!
Walt
