I plan on buying an eleiko powerlifting competition weight set 435kg of weights. I will add some more plates to the order and an extra eleiko competition bar.

I plan on storing it at my gym and only letting the powerlifters I lift with use the equipment. Would that be a dick move? I will then move the equipment to my house once it's built.

No i dont think its a dick move at all.
a few guys at my gym have their own Competition Bars they keep in a backroom and only their team uses them. One of the Squat Bars was a little north of $1k so i cant blame them. as long as the gym you go to is cool with it, and you trust the guys using your plates to not drop or damage them, id do that all day.

have you ever lifted with comp plates?

I've never lifted with comp plates. Getting this equipment will be the begging of my process to open up a sport performance/powerlifting gym.

Is there a big difference in lifting with comp plates?

There isnt a huge difference, but there is some. notably, they weight what they say they weigh. most plates in an average gym are off by about.5-1lbs. they are thinner than an average plate. which doesnt really effect Squat and Bench much, but deads with a deadlift bar and can effect to some degree. you wont get as much whip out of the bar, because the plates dont extend out as far onto the bar collars.

biggest difference is the precise weight

I like that fact of the plates being calibrated and precise. That's the biggest selling point for me.

My gym has Comp plates, but the owner wont let us use them. they are only for meets at the gym. luckily my gym has a bunch of serious lifters and lots of the plates are marked with their exact weight, or style. a guy that has been competing since the 80's and is a pretty big deal in the USAPL marked a certain brand of plate with white out around the rim so he can always find them. they are made from Cast Iron i want to say. He said they hold up better than other plates made of other metals. none of them have any kind of chips or small chunks missing like some other plates do so i take his word as bond.

comp plates are also comparable to 100lb plates. generally speaking 1 100lb is equivalent to have 2 25kg (110lbs) plates in terms or area covering the collar. so its a close alternative.

Do you know if those cast iron plates are still made?
Even the old school round iron plates are a joy. None of those octagonal rubber ones...
I like the old school iron plates.

Of course.

the equipment at my gym has changed hands a couple times. notably it was one of the members stuff who used to have a semi private gym and sold the stuff to the owner. he said he sold them all of the 100lb plates and that he bought them off craigslist. so thats always an option for the 100lb plates. they can be expensive im sure and shipping cost are alot i can imagine.
