Thyroid removal

Then your question is best posted on a medical board where all the relevant facts are KNOWN.

That being said assuming appropriate thyroid supplementation and follow up is provided by a HCP the impact on metabolism should be MINIMAL.

I have talked to my doctor and surgeon about it extensively. They just say things like there should be no noticeable effect. I was just curious what effects folks in this community might have experienced.

Sorry fella but opinion polls along those lines often lead to misdirection and misinformation!

Good luck

I don't see the harm in asking like minded people if they had their thyroid removed and what their experience was. He's not asking people if he should have it removed. If he has half a brain he will take the stories with a grain of salt.

That's exactly it. Of course I will follow my doctors' medical advice.

Unfortunately, my primary is the size of a toothpick, and my surgeon's favorite line is, "your outside the warranty period." I was just hoping for some anecdotal experience from someone other than middle age obese folks.

My son had his removed at 20. His was producing too much hormone because he had a benign tumor. They actually removed half but the half leftover(lobe) doesn't work now. He was 6' 160lbs before and within 2 months he was 185lbs with the same bodyfat. It took a little while to get the synthroid dialed in but he's a healthy, athletic 24yo now. Best of luck to you!

No personal experience but I did just see my father in law go through a radiation treament to kill his. He had to stay in the hospital, in a specialty room for people with radiation exposure, until his levels dropped into a safe range. Took like 8 days I think?

He said it was painless. Only issue was the isolation. Probably doesn't help you at all but why not share a bit?
