Thyroid testing

guys, i have been very tired the past few months and also a bit depressed. My T levels are 491.
That said, a few years back a doc who is now retired said my thyroid was a " bit off" and he wouldnt be surprised if i need thyroid meds in the future.
What are the best/ most reliable thyroid blood tests??

As someone who had their thyroid removed, my endo routinely checks for:
  • Free Thyroxine (T4)
  • Thyroxine (T4)
  • Triiodothyronine (T3) Uptake
  • Free Thyroxine Index
  • Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) Progressive
Personally, I wouldn't try testing and interpreting this data yourself if that's what you're planning on doing. I'd find a competent doctor and let them tailor your treatment to your needs.

Kinetic
What thyroid med are you taking? How do you feel from it?
Any side effects?
Finally, what about thyroid antibodies?

I'm on 224mcg of name brand Synthroid a day and feel fine.

I was on generic levothyroxine but my levels tended to fluctuate too much on it. I started out on a much lower dose after my thyroidectomy, but kept going hypo and had to up the dose to where I am now. I'm also dieting and working out much more than I used to, so I'll probably end up lowering the dose at some point in the future to avoid going hyper.

I don't have a thyroid, so I don't get TPO tests anymore. Before I had it removed, the only test result I had was 573 IU/ml. I had Hashimoto's, so my immune system was basically attacking my thyroid.

i was hypo doc did TSH and free T4 and im on 112mcg of levothyroine and feel much better.Im in the middle range with that dose....

What symptoms did you guys have when you were hypo?
Did you notice a big difference in energy levels and well being after taking thyroid meds?

Lethargy was the biggest one for me. I could get 10 hours of sleep at night, wake up groggy, and still take a 2-3 hour nap during the day if I wasn't working.

That said, you also mentioned depression in your first post. You may have a thyroid problem that could be contributing to it, but it may also be psychological. Go see a doctor and get blood work done, then you'll know what route you'll need to take from there.

I had a ltlle lower body temp and my memory was a little foggy....i know if that helped but im a little better on both accounts...didn't do shit for weight loss
